This is my current laptop specs

Specs:
HP Pavilion DV5-1140TX Special Edition Entertainment Notebook
C2D Processor T9400, 2.53 GHz 6 MB
NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512MB DX10
4GB DDR2 Ram
320GB 5400RPM HDD
Dual Layer DVD/CD LightScribe burner
15.4" WXGA High-Definition
Gigabit Lan, 56k modem, 1.3M Pixel Webcam, 5-in-1 Reader
Wireless G/N

SO basically how much better is the new laptop or would it be best if i just bought a SSD drive for my old lappy. (in saying that do i need a specific type of SSD to fit in because I have noticed the ones specifically on the website for HP say they cost like $200-400 which i know/feel is overpriced)

  • Do you play games? If not, then perform the SSD upgrade and enjoy the benefits of faster boot times / app opening times / responsiveness / faster startups and shut downs etc.
In terms of general computing, upgrading to a faster CPU or GPU won't get you a noticeable performance increase, but the SSD will because it's the biggest bottleneck in any HDD-based computer.

If you play games, edit video, photoshop etc. and you want better performance in those aspects then get the HP G6.

  • what about multi clients of a small game…sometimes when i use 4 clients of the one game my screen blanks out because it cant handle so many of them running at the one time~ would u happen to know how to resolve this issue? e.g getting ssd or faster cpu or something

    I appreciate the feedback to ^ ^

That I don't know… what game specifically? What are the specifications required for that game?

Most games are GPU bound rather than CPU, so an upgrade to a better GPU always helps.

But in some certain circumstances when you're using the computer as a dedicated server (hosting an online game), then CPU performance and RAM becomes a major factor.
