Huawei Ascend Y201 NextG Dropout Tethering

I bought the huawei y201 for wifi thethering with the $10 ipad sims and I have run into some problems.

Whenever I leave 3g on and tether and then the screen shuts off (sleep mode), in about 20 mins-1hour the 3g will dropout/turn off.

I have to unlock the phone to make the screen appear and then 3g will tun back on automatically. Is something wrong with my phone?

So far, I have overcome this problem by selecting never turn screen off in developer mode.
I play DOTA and WoW so this is annoying when I DC.

*also when u guys got Y201, was the plastic pockets open inside the box? (mine were)

i bought 4 from coles. all were properly sealed.

  yea the box was sealed. But you know the clear plastic holding the contents (such as phone, earphone and charger) were open. No tape or anything.

yeah nobody tapes up the plastic inside that's common.
As for tethering with screen off. This is a common issue with CM ROMS and I suspect not unique to them. Did you install a custom ROM by any chance? Also just noticed you say screen shits off 20mins-1hr?? That doesn't make sense, noone has the screen timeout set to 1hr!! Typically the screen timeout is set to 1-2mins which is the whole purpose of it. You sure there isn't something else going on.

    have you tried another phone? maybe the carrier is dropping the connection? poor signal strength? another possibility is some power management software interfering and trying to conserve power
