  • Plus $38.00 shipping. Bugger that!

    • Really? $12 for me for QTY of 1 or 5 which is reasonable given it's a courier.

  • I always get nervous having hard drives delivered for some reason.. granted they are delivered to the store where'd I'd pickup anyway..

Ive been buying this in 5 lots at a time as they come up on sale (they have been on sale 4 times already in the past 2 weeks for 119 and 123 respectively) and all 4 lots have turned up in a proper hdd box (the ones with the pre made drive holes that the manufacturer uses to ship drives)

      • guess I'm getting one then, thanks!

  • I was just about to post this up too..

$12 shipping for up to 5 for me too to the Gold Coast.. Still the cheapest I could find including the courier price but not so much of a good deal if you only want one drive.

If you are after 2 or more then it will get cheaper =)

I am waiting for them to have a decent sale on the HGST 4TB Deskstar.. They keep having the 4TB externals on sale but I want to keep replacing my existing FlexRaid storage drives with all 4TB haha..

I can also vouch that these are really good drives… I have three 4TB Deskstars as well as three 3TB Western Digital Red's and one 3Tb Western Digital Green. The Hitachi drives run quieter and cooler then both the Western Digital drives..

  • Just noticed they do have a sale on the HGST 4TB Deskstars if anyone is interested?

    $229.00 + Courier

There doesn't seem to be a limit on how many you can buy.

I know this isn't as cheap as the previous deals from B&H Photo Video but if you need them now then its not too bad..

It is crazy that the Deskstar 3TB here works out to be $121.40 each delivered if you bought 5.. But the 4Tb Deskstar's are $231.40 each delivered.. So $110.00 extra for only the 1TB more..

so its essentially a 'green' drive running at 7200rpm? WD Blue equiv?

    • I'm officially confuzzled (and no, I didn't neg)

      • nevermind, description on pc case gear mentioned it being "Green, eco-friendly technology".
Most green drives run at 5400rpm? I wanted to get the WD Blue but needed more than 1TB and that drives seems to be a 7200 equivalent of the WD Green.. hmm.. on closer inspection this might be more akin to the WD Black.. if you're willing to take a gamble on Hitachi over the more reliable (IMO) WD.

        • +1

Hitachi is pretty reliable, ive got around 50 in use currently and none of them have had issues yet, the oldest ones i have are 4 years old (pair of 5K's)

One of those things, ive used literally hundreds of drives from each manufacturer and have had various failures over time.

It all works out around the same over the long term.

The only thing that the black has going for it is the 5 year warranty, but you are paying a significant premium for the extra 2 years, so much you are getting close to enterprise grade drives.

        • Thanks dude! Yeah knew about the warranty's but not a major thing.. looks like a decent drive

        • Yeh, when I was deciding to get the HGST 4TB's back in November I was trying to work out if it was better to get WD Blacks.

But I figured it is not worth paying the extra for 2 years because by the time 3 years come around I would be upgrading to bigger drives anyway.

  • Thanks for the post. I was in the market for some new hard drives and just bought 3.

The reviews for this drive are really good.

  • They also sell it via ebay for $149 :

so a $21 premium if you want to pay with paypal

  • Damn why did I snooze on this.. its only 11pm and the price went back up! :/

    • Wouldn't worry too much they have been this price 3 times in the last two weeks, just keep an eye on it and they will come up once more.
