  • When the saving is so significant I'm not sure what puts you off the Chinese airlines. You can get return flights to Paris with the chinese airlines in June for about $1100.

  • Try Cathay Pacific, they have fares to Europe for approx. $1600 http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_AU/offerspromotions/offerslanding?refID=2e5a51893500a310VgnVCM1000000ad21c39____&cm_sp=AU--SALES--ECYPEYJCLFF-AUSEUR-24APR13

  • We got flights to Europe at the end of June with Malaysia for < $1800.

Have a play with the days of the week, if you can. Mid-week is often cheaper than Fri, Sat, Sun.

  • UK departure tax for long haul flights is approximately $450, best to go via Paris then get EasyJet to the UK airport of your choice for about $40 to $100 depending on the journey.
The savings paid for a superb weekend in Paris for the 4 of us at New Year after the obligatory stressful Xmas with UK rellies

  • PS We used Singapore Airlines Perth to Paris under $8000 for 2 adults + 2 children at peak Christmas prices.

  • have a look at Royal Brunei Airlines , have one stop over in Brunei and a short "technical " stop in Doha. Don't serve alcohol but do serve lots of juice and the service is fantastic. http://www.bruneiair.com/australia/

    • I can vouch for this, Royal Brunei were fantastic to fly with, and very cheap.

  • Here is link to Qantas cheap flights and also how to use BKK as stepping off place. I looked a business class but Y seats would be good on Oman, Qatar, Finnair and China Air which is based in Taiwan rathr than China and has direct flight BKK to AMS. Here is my research
QF cheaper deal available now if you book on expedia.br site. Need to use google Chrome as it will do translation from Portugese for you. I always go incognito to stop cookie trail. then book flight in ordinary mode.
Here is link to Australian frequent flyer site which give all the info and has reassuring posts from those who have used it.

You could go to BKK on QF or Brunei airlines and get a J class fare from there to Europe for about $3000 AU Use airline websites as give best price or they did when I searched last week. Finnair will earn you QF points and has 2:2:1 seating, Qatar has great service and great transfer Premium lounge in Dohar. Seating is 2;2:2 and hardly any bookings in J.

Oman is 1:2:1 seating but web site only allows D class booking – defaulted to that for me and so got (D) lowest price in J which only entitles me to connecting train tickets in Europe but you must look for drop down window at beginning of booking or else you cannot get them after the booking is finalised. I thought $3600 total was good as I have an event in BKK first.
