Best value Annual Travel Insurance

Just posting here on the off chance someone else has recently done a comparison and has a recommendation.

Of course I will read the PDS of policies I'm considering as comparing travel insurance policies is not like comparing apples with apples, but if anyone has any suggestions please fire away.

I'll post what I discover too if anyone is interested.

ETA: I won't be paying for the trips on cc so credit card insurance is out.

quote me $320 based on my age as the only criteria.
Probably worth looking at the Platinum credit cards complementary insurance if you are considering multiple short trips rather than a long term backpacker style trip. By which I mean the chances for something going wrong forcing a claim are higher if you are away for many months, and might expose any flaws in the 'free' card insurance, while a few holidays make that risk minimal.
For reference, this tragic story is just about a worse case scenario, that had costs covered by card insurance:

  • Woolworths Annual Policy is around $400 for 2 people for worldwide coverage.
    Pretty good Cover as well
    They cover Ipads, Iphone automatically.

Just make sure you find the Annual policy part of the page.

    • Thanks, the website is not very user friendly though - I can find the annual trip page, but then can't get a quote for it (it defaults to a single trip). Any tips?

  • ANZ Visa card, about $85 annual fee with travel insurance and product protection. I've never had to claim on travel insurance yet touch wood but got $130 from their product protection insurance when my crapbox 360 had the RROD for the fourth time, just out of warranty.

There are some conditions with the travel insurance, you need to pre-spend $250 of flight/hotel/car hire etc on the card before your departure date, and I think the max time away is 3 months.

  • Try SCTI ( Southern Cross Travel Insurance) - only available on line. My husband & I have used them for a number of years & they always come out as the top value insurer.
In April we went on holiday to a hotel in Koh Samui where I unfortunately fell & broke my arm. SCTI upgraded us to business class on our return home, paid the hospital account & even followed up with a call on my progress 2 days after our return.
