Energy Matters National 6kw Solar Special $7977-$9377 Fully Installed

20

Decent price, has fallen quite a bit and STCs are quite high now. The system is a little bigger than what the average home uses so it has the possibility to make your bills into credits with the FIT.

You can pay a weekly amount if you don't want it outright.

  • $67.27 weekly payment! If cant do outright

  • what state is this for?

    • All states except NT. The pricing changes depending on the state that's why there is a price range in the title.

  • What is the bargain?

What is the usual price, $20,000?

Their 5kW system was close to $11k at the start of the year…

      • Wow that is a lot. How much do other companies charge for 5/6kw of similar setup??

        • +1

Slightly less. Energy Matters was one of the more expensive companies that I found. However, many many many people recommend them.

Shame their 3kW system is nearly $7.5k…

        • +1

It's easier to compare with 5kW packages are there are many of them. Most are going for around $6000+ but the issue is service. TrueValueSolar can be cheap but so is there inverter and service. Energymatters has good reviews.

        • Thanks good to know guys

  • any idea which inverter they use?

    • Aurora, very common good brand in the industry next to Sunnyboy. The panels are fairly average however you can upgrade them to REC if you feel the need to and they are currently the best IMO and according to multiple performance reports.

      • thanks..i have heard about Xantrex..will search for Aurora

  • Caveat emptor

    • Have you had any problems with Energy Matters? If you have please share them as this is a large purchase for most people.

"I saw this ad: (link removed) and thought that if you think a smaller company is dicy like others here have maybe just get EM to match your quote. What do you think?"

This junk has a 70% plus markup on it. Nice to know I can pay it off weekly or upgrade the panels to proper ones. As I said Caveat emptor and no I'm not affiliated with anyone. If you buy a system you should do some real research and negotiate a price. I see no deal here someones got to tell it like it is.

  • Without the big compensation from the Govt. I do wonder if these save much if any money. I do wonder on the longevity of systems and cost of replacing inverters in a few years. Panels themselves deteriorate overtime as well. For me $10k is 4 years bills. So I reckon it would be minimum 6 years before I break even, probably more.

    • Good point, at the same time however electricity prices has been rising.

    • +1

The better panels guarantee >80% output for at least 20 years. Not sure how long the inverter will last but the better ones have a 5 year warranty. Even with no rebate I think you should easily pay off a system in around 5 years - provided (a) it's correctly sized for your usage and (b) prices keep rising, which is almost a certainty

  • Had a 5.4Kw system installed today in Adelaide for $5400, cannot give any stats yet on its quality until its hooked up by energy provider in he coming weeks but my father in law has the same brand system and its been running fine for a couple years. I think this price is reasonable for someone needing a 6kw system

    • Had a 5.4Kw system installed today in Adelaide for $5400

I think this price is reasonable for someone needing a 6kw system

Can you advise how paying at least 33% more for 10% extra capacity is reasonable?

      • It depends on the state. I think SA had a bonus installation as it used to be 2k or so cheaper there.

      • I think it's more like paying an extra 50%+.

But I don't think you can simply look at percentage changes. In essence, you're paying an extra $2600 for an extra 0.6Kw and supposedly better panels, so the question really should be if the discounted value of that extra power is worth $2600.

I am not knowledgeable in this area so I'm interested in more educated opinions on this.

  • What do people think about the economic trade-offs between getting expensive panels, e.g. from this deal, and getting cheaper panels, e.g. from Chinese imports? Does anyone know of some relevant statistics?

I'm considering the spectrum of solar panels retailers and I want to get the one that makes most economic sense. E.g. I wouldn't want to pay $X extra for better panels that only save less than $X more in electricity costs.

    • Yea, I currently have a 4.94 kW system with a Samil inveter and Chinese panels. Still working fine after 3 years. It's hard to write reports that rely on efficiency over time.

I also have Chink panels in my 10kw system and 3 years on this summer have me my best 3 months yet. Of course we did have more sun, but not a bad result.

So my gut feel is that its probably a small benefit, which may be outweighed by the cheap price of Chinese panels. Also Chi panels have come a long way in a short period

        • Did you just say Chink panels?

        • is it that hard to type chinese? this isnt the 1980's

        • it… could just be the postmodern name of a brand of panel i suppose? i'm reluctant to google it at work…

No one has a problem with 'arab' rather than 'arabian', 2day, b4, who really cares? PC gone mad

        • +3

just say your chinese yourself and everyone will be happy.

  • are far as value, IMO it comes down to longevity/quality of install (expensive) versus uncertainty/paying for repairs/replace (cheap). the difference can be huge. both positive and negative. then throw in level of feed in tariff, future power costs, bad advice, daytime power use etc etc. so much to consider. so glad i jumped in prior to the end of the big tariffs. used a private electrician rather than a 'referral company'.

  • Got the 44 cent deal and already put in 1 kw on Qld Govt plan at beginning
Any cheap 4 KW systems out there ? Rebate only to 5 KW

  • +1

why would you even bother now that the FIT are pretty much gone? unless your using everything your generating its just not worth it. 8c a KW back from the government is crazy!
