people who lose/break their hdmi cables? People who get new TV's? I dont use HDMI on my tv yet.. i do on one of my monitors though.

    • people still troll? that's so 2012

  • Any deals on hdmi to mini/micro?

  • Is there any different between the colour?

    • +1

no different in function and performance. the colours make easier to identify the cable connection from other end.

      • ok thanks for the reply.

  • Thanks, ordered two HDMI cables, I'm buying a new 3D TV, does PS3 play 3D bluerays? haven't got a 3D Blueray disc yet.

    • Yes it does (unless its running a really old version of the operating system). I'd be inclined to recommend purchasing a dedicated 3d player which will use much less power and save your ps3 for playing games…. But as an all in one unit it (ps3 as games + bluray player) it's pretty good (and very fast at loading blurays too)

      • Thanks for your prompt reply. I'll buy a Blueray Player.
Any recomendations? where can I buy a region free player?

        edit- found my answer

From my own experience dealing with 'never heard of that brand bluray player' and name brands, the more common ones (ie Sony, Panasonic) are probably more likely to be supported with firmware upgrades giving a long lifespan.

I bought a 'then cheap' bluray player at DSE - AMTC I think it was…. It worked for the first 2 years or so, then would refuse to play an increasing number of new blurays discs… There was no firmware upgrade available and because I bought extended warranty, DSE refunded my money (minus the $50 warranty - which I wasn't too happy about because the hardware was fine just company was too lazy to release new firmware - they purchased probably an OEM chipset and just re-badged it)…

Therefore, if you want a quality bluray player I've found sony ones to be quite feature rich (yes I know, evil sony with their restrictions and copy protection) and they work and work well and solidly.

I'd probably stay away from Sharp — I bought the first generation player of theirs - excellent output capabilities - 1080P via component, 6 speaker output at the back, hdmi etc etc( just no network )… Paid $600 for it, then the laser burnt out after 3 years or so.

Philips are okay (bit bare compared to Sony), Toshiba (the recent $49 one on sale at Harvey Norman) feels slapped together and el cheapo but seems to work (linux based), LG - not too bad, tad slow, my current one has a funny firmware that makes my LG tv switch itself off for a quick moment - will need to chase LG up to figure out what's happening.

        • Laser is region free out of the box.
Toshiba needs firmware upgrade and Sony needs a mod kit to become region free according to this page: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=121903

        • You might find this useful

          http://www.blu-ray.com/players/search.php

I am particularly looking for dual hdmi out 3d bluray so that I don't have to upgrade my existing receiver… there are a few models out there that do this.

        • Interesting cvindura. I am in the same boat. Any idea where to buy them from?

          Sony BDPS790 Premium 3D Blu-ray Player - $333.30 free shipping… doesn't seem bad.

I am sure the 1.5M wasn't listed even lunch time today, I tried to find a couple 1.5M cables and visited apus ebay store, but found nil. End up purchased 2 x 2M cables, and let me see this tonight. 85c difference isn't a big issue, but have to wind up the extra 50cm on my desk, sigh.

Hi, Im really new to the whole HDMI thing. Can anyone please tell me if there is a way I can connect a laptop that doesnt have HDMI port to a HDMI TV? I bought the HDMI cable and thats when I realised I couldnt connect it to my laptop. Is there such a thing as a converter or something I could use in my laptop? Thanks in advance :)

    • +1

      google: dvi to hdmi.

      • I think you mean VGA to HDMI. I've only ever seen one laptop with DVI to HDMI but the rest either have VGA or HDMI

I recently order 4M for $5.99 from below link:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/4m-HDMI-Cable-v1-4-Digital-3D-Hig…

    • I see this seller has 10m leads for $14.95, $4 cheaper than Shopping Square. So I may be tempted to buy one of these to see how they compare.

  • Hey I am interested in these 15m or 20m HDMI cables as the prices seem cheap?

But I have read that after 15m HDMI cables loose signal because of the length they need to transfer signal, you need to purchase a booster (quite expensive?) in order to maintain power through the cable. This is also based on how many AWG the cable is. (unsure how many AWG these cables are?)

Can anyone give more information about this?

BACKGROUND: I am trying to get HD Foxtel signal around different rooms of the house (not like the old RF splitter way I want HD signal). I have come up with using a HDMI splitter from the back of the box to each room and then its respective TV. using a device like this one (http://www.proaudiovisual.com.au/hdmi-splitter-amplifier-1-t…).

These cables could be exactly what I need but any suggestions as I have come up with this solution by myself would be greatly appreciated?

I have just bought a few of the 2m leads here and I am thinking about maybe buying a 10-15m for my home cinema.

I currently use a 15m cable I got cheap from DSE about 4 years ago, just HDMI 1.3, but fine for what I have as no 3D projector….yet.

I have been able to pump all sorts of resolutions over this 15m lead and had no visible issues. 1080p 100/120hz exceeds it, but pretty much everything lower seems to work.
So I would think that a 15m lead would work, and even most likely the 20m leads too, especially with Foxtel which at max is 1080i 50hz.

I also believe that most cheaper HDMI cables perform similarly to the more expensive ones. Gone are the day of crazy monster gold component cables to get the best 1080i upscale from your dvd upscaler because everything was analogue based. Since everything has gone digital I have compared heaps of cables, on many devices from nice high end Pioneer Kuro plasmas, home theatre projectors, to normal cheap LCDs. I don't think I've ever seen difference when we changed between inputs with different cables. Bit like how digital tv looks the same if you have 60% signal or 100% signal. The signal strength still exceeds the required bandwidth of what you are streaming. And currently I run everything into my home theatre with cheap $4 HDMI cables I bought from K-Mart, not even gold plated ones. And I haven't had any problems running them into the receiver and then bitstreaming HD audio as well as passing through a 1080p signal to my projector.

Possibly with 2k and 4k projectors/tvs, I would be interested to see how they perform between cables. But I haven't had the chance to test any true UHD devices like this yet.
