  • I've always wanted to take up drums. As always money, space and the sanity of those I live with were stopping me. At least with this deal one of those 3 challenges is removed. Oh my, trigger on the buy button!

  • i wouldn't recommend getting these drums
trust me, i've seen a friend whose gotten one before…
they come really fragile compared with other sets
i ended up getting a pearl EX Export Series with the 6 drums XD
symbols cost another fortune…especially for the average 3 piece zildjian piece
    total costed $1,800 =(
however, quality was really good, especially for starters hehe

  • A yes, a drum-kit… The perfect gift for the boy-child of someone who you really dislike!?
Don't leave our the daughter. She can get a set of karaoke microphones + DVD for when she has all her friends stay for sleep-overs.
And for the younger members of their family,,, one of those toy chain-saws that make realistic sounds.

  • Any deal for a drum timbale set with cowbell ?

  • +2

I am a drummer and if you have a 360/PS3 console and want to start the drums, don't get this kit. Instead, get the GHWT bundled kit, a 360 USB PC controller receiver, connect the drum kit to your PC using this software - http://drop.io/360mididrummer, bang on some headphones and voila, you have a cheap electronic drum kit that you can practice on without driving other people out of their minds! If you want to take it further, then I would invest $2000 into a decent kit and cymbals…you'll get away with playing that kit at a gig.

Giving this a positive vote though because if you don't have a console, then $320 (with delivery) is a pretty good price for a starter kit. Just don't expect it to sound good.

  • Hi Stix. Can you map the drum sounds to latin percussion, say congas, timbales etc with this software ?

  • Not too sure yet mate…I actually don't own GHWT until next week.

From what I've read though, the software will translate each hit (USB data) into MIDI events. Then you use LoopBe1 (freeware) to send those MIDI events to a VSTi app (not too sure which is the best). But in the VSTi app, you should be able to map whatever sound you want for each pad…so I'll say yes…but I haven't tested it yet.

  • Its interesting that you are getting GHWT and not the BigW special on Rockband Instr + Game for 180 (has the drum kit).
Is GHWT really worth 140/- more ?

  • IMHO and being a drummer…yes, well you can get GHWT for $280 so it's only $100 more. From my research and experience, the GHWT kit is a lot better than the RB1 kit - it has a more realistic layout and the pads are quieter and give more stick bounce - important to me as I'm a drummer!! The only downside to the GHWT kit is that the pedal can break quite easily.

Check out this link - http://www.gizmag.com/guitar-hero-world-tour-vs-rock-band-2/…

That being said though, once RB2 gets released in Australia, I'll be getting the RB2 kit. It's pads have been upgraded (quieter and velocity sensitive) and you can get the triple cymbal expansion set. I'll get this running on the PC so you can pretty much record with it having hi-hats, snare, crash1, tom1, ride (as the 3rd pad), crash2, tom2 and kick! Sweet! Cheapest electronic drum kit!

    • Hi Stix. Cool. I'll go for the GHWT as well. Is there a forum where we can keep in touch? I'd love to hear what you've done with the Vsti setup for mapping. Are you using Cubase ?

      • No worries mate…flick me an email (via clicking on my name on this site).

I don't have any vsti software yet…in fact, I didn't even know what vsti was until I googled it! :D I'm getting GHWT next week for my birthday - after I've finished fiddling, I'll let you know what happens.
