Have not seen reviews of these, so I would love to hear any opinions out there. Start making those Christmas presents…

  • Does it include everything? Like, I can put that together and instantly become Cliff Burton?

  • This is more a disassembled complete guitar than a kit per se.
I would just buy a well reviewed cheap Strat and be done with it. You can take the neck of or replace the tuners if you want to muck around with it.

  • Tell me where you get a well-reviewed cheap Strat for this money?

    • you can't, and that's the point.

Spend a little more - get something known to be decent.
Would get a Yamaha Pacifica or a Squire. Even new the Pacifica is ~ $300 and well worth it and 2nd hand is fine too.
Unless someone has done it before and knows what they are doing, they are to struggle with setting the neck angle, the truss rod, intonation and possibly even assembling it correctly. And then, who knows how it plays?
There is such a thing as too cheap or too many pitfalls. Spend a bit more.

On top of all that, the kit is raw wood, so getting a decent finish on it will also require experience.

Personally, I would not embark on building a kit. As mentioned above, buy a guitar that will play well. Artist Guitars do cheap & good. I've bought a few guitars, lots of accessories and a hard case from them. Other than the cheap amplifier (which I returned for full refund & they no longer stock), I've been happy with everything bought from them.

    Couple of things:

    • The aestehtics of the headstock are a bit, meh. It has no form. Maybe you are expected to cut it to your own design. In which case, extra work that could ruin the project.
    • The pictures suggest that it comes half-assembled. That's a hindrance, as you will need to disassemble it all (possibly having to de-solder wires) in order to sand/paint/lacquer the body.

You may want to consider some alternatives, such as the Artist kits, that come in Strat and Tele configurations. There are others too, even a semi-hollow.

If the Artist Tele kit comes with the same Bullbucker pickups that they ship with the fully assembled Tele clone, then you are onto a winner. Those actually sound really good, even though Artist use them on inexpensive guitars. I'd recommend the Tele over a Strat just for those pickups.

Yep, have seen many positive reviews for Artist guitars and excellent value too

    • shipped all in bits
I ran a router over the edges of the body to round them off a little more
      spray varnish worked well
I am by no means expert, but this plays and sounds ok to me. Was quite fun putting it together

the "extra work" re the headstock I think is intended so you can "make it yours"

and I had in mind doing a "prusacaster" with it, but seem to be missing the roundtuit required for that. So far I have a 'prefender' printed headstock label sitting over the top of the one as supplied ;-)

      • …. realised I got the "tele" version, not the "strat" : more likely to work as a prusacaster

  • Hmm… This might be a good option for a 3d printed guitar body project
