Blackberry 2.1 update is out as of Feb 2013.

    • Pretty sure its getting BB OS 10 as well.

      • Not likely at this stage, do you have a link?

Also BB10 means no android apps, think its fine as is.

        • Are you sure you had Android apps in 2.x?

If so, did it require any jailbreaking or the like?

(We had one, but didn't see Google Play on it.)

        • No google play, have to sideload apps only some work but at least it is the only os to support outside native os apps

  • No one complain about the 1024×600 resolution?

    • It's a tablet that was released in 2011, and at that time the Nexus was a lot more expensive.
Now it'd be considered a cheap tablet with pretty decent specs for the money.

Operating system is the main issue though.

Still my preferred tablet, higher resolution doesnt make the experience better ;)

OS is smoooth and reliable for me, and being able to sideload android apps almost makes it the best of both worlds

  • i have to say this is one of the best cheap tablets for web browsing and has more updates to come to iron out the kinks.

Tempting. What's the android app support like. Is it easy?

      • I've followed your link and I'm still not entirely sure what's going on. What I'm guessing you're saying is that apps have to be converted or something, but pre-converted apps are available? And to copy them over you need to install this DDPB thing?

Also I've read this only emulates a Gingerbread environment, so you'll be restricted to apps which will on on GB?
Also how's the compatibility? Does graphics acceleration work? Is there anything that doesn't?

Thanks OP, Just got mine, really a good deal.
Playbook will upgrade to BB10 later on.
Hope to receive the product soon.

    • I know the CEO once said they -would- do a BB10 upgrade…

but -later- reports said they weren't so sure (since doing that might reduce sales of the new native BB10 tab's)

There were also rumors of a -fee- to upgrade to BB10, which has features useful to Business Users.

How do you -know- BB10 is coming to Playbook 7's, and - if it is - where does it say "costfree" for that upgrade?

      • All software upgrades are free for blackberry devices, there is only rumours at this stage of bb10 on current playbook.

Not sure there is a lot of value in the upgrade, bb10 is nice on the z10 etc but there is nothing wrong with current playbook os

  • These guys have the 64GB for $200
    http://www.thinkofus.com.au/Blackberry-PlayBook-Tablet-64GB-… + ~$20 shipping.

  • Be prepared to bump your head on the need to update Flash, ie, beyond 10.1 (a bit old), by rumor only…

    • You mean same as current version of android?
