Hmm…so it has no sound card and no normal HDD besides the SDD?

    • +36

With this model, you have to make your own sound effects.
      Boom! Crash! Pow! Whack!

I would however suspect "THX TruStudio Pro Surround Sound & Subwoofer" indicates some kind of audio under the bonnet.

        • +35

too many* - looks like you don't read enough.

        • +1

THX TRUSTUDIO PRO SURROUND SYSTEM, ONKYO SPEAKERS.

this is a better sound system than 99% of the laptops out there

          no audio? lol

where we're going, we dont need hard drives!

        • +2

On top of the Onkyo speakers u also have the sound of the cooler trying to keep the GTX670 from melting the laptop. Using headphones reduces it.

        • Yeah, it would be nice to see audio specs in dBA on these things.

        • wow… 2x pwnage on 2 different people in the first 4 posts, I'm impressed!

        • I didn't read the "too much comics" as a negative. On that note, I also feel it's rather poor etiquette to criticize an individuals articulation in navigating the English language. Many of us speak more than one language and will not always be absolutely correct in our pronunciation.

    • +8

Hi, it does have in built sound card and it has THX TruStudio Pro software with it to to power the speakers and subwoofer. Also has 7.1 channel output via SPDIF.

We put in a proper 128gb mSATA drive for you, none of these smaller cache drives so that you can have a real fast experience. If you like you can add a secondary drive. We appreciate not all customers want this or would like to upgrade it themselves.

      Edit: Typo

      • +5

Have one (using right now). Paid $300 more for no SSD and less ram and 660m. Can vouch for awesome laptop unless you're a metal fan. Great speakers for a laptop. I also swapped out the dvd drive for a hdd slot. So now ssd+hdd. Can't ask for more. Used a dvd twice…in a external dvd drive so no issues there.

      • +1

Hey, just ordered one (First laptop/pc in almost 5 years :X)

Quick question I'm assuming there is an slot to install an additional HDD without having to convert the dvd drive, or upgrade the sdd? (Was hoping to install a large HDD myself if its not too hard..)

        Thanks!

        • +1

I think you should be able install your own HD in the available HD slot.

        • -2

Pretty sure the P151EM requires an optical bay replacement for a second hard drive, so you have to give up your DVD writer if you want a second hard drive

        • Wasting precious space on a DVD unit is crazy IMO. I've been rocking a 2nd HDD since ~2008, and I'll never look back. SSD for the primary, 1TB for the secondary. BEASTLY and CHEAP!

        • +3

This comes with a msata SSD. It means the HDD slot is free for you to put your own HDD in it.
So this can have a msata SSD, HDD (not included) and an optical drive in it at the same time.

        • Simply go on eBay and get a ODD to 2.5" HDD converter for ~$30 and then get a external ODD caddy for ~$15 sure it's $40 but lets be honest how often are you going to use CD/DVDs.

        • +2

Point remains. DVD is hardly ever (never) used. Dinosaur tech. Waste of space & money. One external for all machines. Again, that's if needed at all. 2x HDD + 1 SSD is where it's at.

  • +4

im surprised it has a gtx 670 i was expecting to see a 650 max

  • +2

Oh, wow thats a nice price. Still got my last gen P151, been a great laptop.

  • Great price, a shame I recently got an ASUS one :-(

  • Any deals for the Horize JW6?

  • +3

    3.1KG Ouch, my back :)

    • OH&S issues ?
you must be on Work Cover

      • +5

        Isn't it WHS now? :p

        • +2

Windows Home Server? Sounds like a safety issue already!

  • -8

Good but the current Dell 17R bargain is better for the price, bigger screen, better built, OS included and cheaper

This has a 670GTX which is what really makes the difference, it's on Alienware territory!

    • +13

This is the first time I've ever heard someone claim a Dell Inspiron had better build quality than anything excepting maybe a Toshiba Satellite.

Dell do make good laptops, but I've never seen them put an "Inspiron" badge on any of them.

      • Can't say I have any experience with recent Inspirons, but my first and only Inspiron back in the early 2000s had probably the worst build quality I've experienced with a laptop (or any computer) to date — the plastic was literally as flimsy as an ice cream container, and the whole thing cracked and fell apart after a little over a year. Dell didn't want to listen to my "not fit for purpose" arguments, so I got it repaired under my credit card's extended warranty and sold it soon after. Haven't bought Dell ever since. :)

      • -5

The comment about build quality was made mainly in comparison with the laptop in this bargain which judging by the photos is very poor

I have lots of Dell hardware at work and they all feel like they are built with quality materials

        • +5

So your judgement is based purely on photos.

        • Wrong. Clevos are absolutely brilliant build quality. They arn't made to look pretty, they are made to work. Mine is by far the most sturdy, well designed laptop i've had.

        • I don't think commercial grade hardware is the right comparison…

    • Link? I can't seem to find it..

    • +15

Am I looking at the same 17R that you are looking at? The Inspiron 17R Special Edition for $898.99?

      i5 vs i7
      8gb vs 16gb ram
1TB 5400rpm vs 128gb mSata (Edit: flipped listing for consistency)
      GT650M vs GTX670m

The only thing I can see that would be awesome is the 17.3" but other than that, =\

Better built? Do you mean mainstream brand quality vs less well known brand quality? I've used / had both and meh same same. I prefer Dells less actually. The keyboards on the Horize laptops are great.

OS included, fair point OSes cost money. For me personally though, bloatware taints my view of all factory installed windows. But that's me.

Cheaper…well it's cheaper because of the parts.

Not to put you down or anything just wanted to compare the differences for those people interested in your "better bargain" statement, which was the case with me.

      • +1

Can not upvote this enough. Research needs to be done before commenting.

      • Aye, i spent a bit looking for this mythical 17r. only found what you found.

The metabox is far better for the price

  • When does this expire OP?

    • +2

In the deal it says: while stocks last

  • great price, bought a refurb asus g71 from these guys back about a year or two ago. still going strong!

  • Any deals on the GTX680M MXM upgrade kit? (I only need the MXM card itself, none of the other parts like heatsink etc.)

  • When will this deal expire?
Bookmarked with intention to cop, but need some time to research!

    • +1

In the deal it says: while stocks last

  • Does it have a backlit keyboard?
Googled the answer and its no

  • Yeaaaaaaahhhhhhh boiiiiiiii very good price OP. I'm still on the search for a sub $1k GTX laptop though :)

  • +2

    Great price.
I want backlit keyboard like Sager!!

  • Good hackintosh candidate if it worked - anybody know?

  • +2

If wanted a laptop, this we probably be no.1 choice, looks awesome.

  • +3

OP, could you do a similar deal on the P150? Backlit keyboard is a must for some.

    • This is possible maybe in the future, but right now this is the only one with this special. Thanks.

    • I would really like a deal for the P150 aswell. I was looking at the P150 this whole week, but realised I don't really need a new laptop, but if there was a special… I would definitely buy it now.

  • +3

Rep, can you do the same special for the Horize W370ET Clevo Notebook please? 17" screen would be great… thanks.

  • This looks great! I wonder how noisy the fans are?

  • I have the P150 with backlight keyboard, upgraded CPU, the 670MX a 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM, DVD, the 95% screen… and i FREAKING LOVE IT! GREAT DEAL! Cost me nearly 2k.

I did get it from affordablelaptops but you win some you lose some!

Build quality is great. I have had some problems with the keys not being recognised when i type, bu its a rarity..The battery life was great when i first had it, now 6 months old, it lasts 2hours playing a DVD and then some…
Be warned it is HEAVY and does need some lugging around, great replacement for an old desktop.

    • +3

If you are having a problem with your keyboard you should RMA your notebook as that was an issue with some of the earlier models. Just requires a simple keyboard replacement.

      • Thanks, will have to look into it. Dont have a backup at the moment will have to hold on to it!

  • Damn. I'd sell my left nut (as-is) for a W110ER. My dream machine, but too many other "important" things going-on in life :(

    Growing-up sucks!

  • Bought. Couldn't resist.

  • Bought a W110ER for my wife recently, pretty happy with this rocket. However the keyboard doesn't feel very nice when typing, and always accidentally touch the touchpad, otherwise I will seriously consider to purchase another for myself.

    • The keyboard is so small on W110ER I can understand this. I recommend to disable the touchpad (FN+F1) it will make it more comfortable. The keyboard on this model is 'full size' so it is easy to get used to.

  • +3

Jack Bovill from LogicalBlueOne is the man! awesome customer service, bought a laptop from him last year, it is some top quality stuff, got the P170EM decked out with a 680m worth every penny even just for the customer service.

    • Thanks for your kind words.

  • is the RAM dual channel?

    • Yes.

  • +2

    good deal.
looks like fraglabs are doing the same deal:
    http://www.fraglabs.com.au/products/vector-p151em1/

    • +1

I think the only difference between this deal and the one from Fraglabs is the Matte Display.

  • With the ODD Conversion Kit for Extra Hard Disk… Does that make it a total of 3 drives that can be installed in this laptop?

    • +1

That is correct. 1x mSATA. 1x Hard Disk, 1x Hard Disk via ODD. Total 3.

      • BEAST!

  • Are there any other colors available? I really hate black :(. Blue would look awesome :D.

    • Sorry, only charcoal black available.

  • Hmm, i'm confused, is Horize the brand? Or is this a custom notebook only available from LBO?

    • Horize is the brand, it can be bought elsewhere I am sure, but we have this specific deal.

  • Hi, OP,
is it possible to install OSX (i.e, Apple's OS, Mac OS) on this machine if I have the disc?
    and
is it possible to get rid of optical drive(DVD), but put back 750GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive? if so, how much extra?
    Thanks

    • Hi,

I am not sure about OSX. That is not something I can help with.

However yes you can convert ODD to 750GB hard disk. Please see the options manager on the website, it has the pricing listed there.

      • Does this mean you can't have both a DVD drive and a normal HDD?

  • Hi Rep,

I really want to buy a W110ER. Is there any chance you will have a deal sometime in the near future?

    • I am not sure, possibly. But at this stage the P151EM1B is the only one with this specific promotion.

    • A 15" screen size is a bit mediocre for a gaming machine.
    • Is there a 17"~18" version available?

    • If there's no OS installed, where do I get all the drivers from?
Is an OS of my choice available from this vendor?

    Thanks.

  • Does this laptop come with a laptop bag?

    • No sorry, it does not.

    • +5

      Wouldn't it need a trolley ^_^

  • +3

I bought an ASUS G51JX from LBO 3 years ago and it recently needed to go in for repair under their extended warranty. Their service was far better and more professional than the ASUS warranty.
(and they finally fixed the problem!)
    Excellent service!!

  • Amazing Bargain.

Please post another such bargain when 4th Gen CPU come out.

Great great deal for ANYONE looking for great laptop specs.

    • Its likely this one is on sale because the 4th gen CPU is coming up and these are being runout.

  • Hi, jackkel, Is there any touch screen i7 laptop available?

    • Sorry, but we do not do touch screen models.

  • Hi jackkel,

I'm really interested in this model but i've already got a 250 GB SSD so i am thinking of should I get the normal 750GB 7200rpm hard drive then install my SSD after or I should stick with the promotion?

Btw, is there any way that you can replace the promotion with a normal hard drive?

    Thank you.

    • Hi, that sounds like a good idea but unfortunately we can't change the promotion. It is a great deal with the bonus mSATA drive and it is very fast. If you must use your 250GB SSD perhaps well the mSATA drive privately as they are worth a lot of money due to their rarity.

  • Hey Jack, Does it come with a fingerprint reader? Photos come up with it on the touchpad. Whats the shipping like to Perth?

    • Sorry the picture is a generic one, it does not have the finger print reader.

Shipping to Perth is $29.95 (flat rate anywhere in Australia) and is done via DHL AIR Priority. Shipping time should be 1-2 business days.

  • Jack ive just shelled out for one with 3 year warranty and understand you guys have a good rep on the warranty front. However I cant seem to see any detail about what my extra bucks buys me?
    Inclusions/exclusions type detail.
And yes Im fully aware these are the kinds of questions any self respecting ozbargainer asks before plonking down benjamins….
