  • Full name? Or just one matching criterea enough?

    • just matching one criteria

  • Heh, number 1 name on the female list! Bit of a weird promotion though.

  • +1

Seems to be most popular names of children born in the 80s

    • I'd say it's the top 10 list of their members' names. Which would probably correlate with kids born in the 80s.

      • yep, i'd say so :)

      • yep it's top ten members names

  • Was just gonna post this… Anyways, I can confirm that the barcode is the same for everyone, so there won't be any problems using the one provided.

  • jb gonna neg for sure….

    EBAY games are not cheap!

    • +2

      eBay?

    • EB games are not cheap.

  • +4

Bought a game from EB the other day, they told me if I wanted to return it I needed to be an EB World member. Something tells me Australian Consumer Law would be on my side if I did happen to try and return it without signing up.

    • I doubt it, as long as their policy expressly states that you can't return it unless you're a member. EB is under no obligation to offer returns on their products at all. In saying that, do they still do their 7 day thing?

    • +1

Better than not being able to return it at JB, Big W, Kmart, Target, etc

    • -1

firms only have to legally accept returns if the item is faulty so if they offer it to members then thats a bonus.
chapel st store manager told me that they wernt accepting any returns now as people used the online codes and returned them….i think she was lying tho and just didnt want my business as i used the store like a rental store.

eb basically prey on mums who dont know the value of games and trade them in for a fraction of their worth and pay $30 more than jb hifi for new games or $50 more than online prices.
I'm sure they will eventually go the way of gameswizards.

    • I was in there 2 days ago for the sale, bought 2 cheap games, was told by th rep that I have 2 weeks to bring them back if I don't like them, not sure if its for refund or exchange tho. I am already an EB member but she didn't know that at the time. May have had something to do with being used items

  • +1

I'm sure you can get cheaper prize on other retailers even after the limited $10 discount.

  • +2

    weird promotion…

  • +4

With a name of Duncan Fenn and born on the 29th Feb.. I've got no f$#king chance…

    • Mercedes-Chardonnay, Royal Butler and Softly Sigh (all people I know who were born in the 80s) have roughly about the same prospects…

  • +4

    Pretty stupid promotion.

  • +2

Wii console for $39 or old DS for $20?

  • +1

    What a stupid promotion.

  • Descrimination

  • Manfred VonRichthofen, 2 May?

  • Ha ha I'm a bit worried that my first name and birthdate are there.

I'm guessing all the users complaining the competition is 'stupid' don't have their name on the list.

    • +1

As I said above, my name is the first on the female list. I still think this promotion is stupid.

  • has anyone tried to register a fake account yet, all you should need is to print off the temporary card..as long as you dont trade anything in or dont know you as a regular, it should be all peachy?

  • Who on earth still shop at EB these day? Games from zavvi are even cheaper than EB preowned.

    • im currently into my 5th week of waiting for a game from zavvi, i'll shop at both for the right price, rather than make generic comments that one is better than the other

      • I've been shopping with them for the past 3 years, and never had any problem with the delivery. It normally takes about 2-3 weeks to arrive and if you don't received within 5 weeks they will refund you or you can choose to get another copy send to you.
Are you saying EB has got the right prices for most of their products? If you think their prices are OK then shop there. As for me EB suck monkey's balls and I haven't shop there since …. I can't remember!!!

I might just have a little promotion of my own:

Only stores whose names do not appear on the list below can accept my patronage for the next 12 months:

     - EB Games

If your name is on my above list, get stuffed.

  • The promotion is a bit of a backfire for me.

Was reading about the promotion in my email, got to that bit; name not there; closed the email and got on with life. Just realized that there might have been other interesting stuff in the email that I'll now never read.

Stupid deal because you should be rewarding all your members for a milestone like that instead of something random like this which alienate a bunch of people.

I'd rather they reward Lvl X members than pull something this lame.

  • What's the restriction that's been cut off the last line? Curious whether EB's put a one discount per transaction or one discount per member limitation on the deal.

    • +1

only 1 $10 per transaction and 1 use for each eb world card

  • +3

White people born in the 80s rejoice.

Between the silly strict criteria, the fact that it's for one day only and the fact that the more desirable 2nd hand games are usually over priced when compared to brand new games from other retailers.

It's not really a bargain, It's a promotion and a terrible one at that.

Cheers for the heads up but neg from me.

    • Whether a deal is officially a promotion or price drop doesn't change whether the end transaction represents a bargain or not.

I'm curious why you'd neg the person who posted the deal the because you don't like the retailer?

      • I'm not negging the person, I'm negging the deal (while giving decent reasons for doing so I thought) all while thanking the OP's effort for submitting it.

Did you read my whole post or just that one line?

        • +1

I read the whole post. Being somewhat new to OZB I'm trying to understand the whole neg voting thing as it doesn't always seem to be directed at the deal. Personally I prefer the terms up-vote & down-vote.

Tis why I asked the question rather than simply negging the comment, as per what appears to be standard practice :)

    Namescrimination.

Is it "ok" to blame your parents for not giving you the correct name?

  • Racist… No Chinese Surname lol

    • At least there's one foreign surname there lol

      • -1

        Lee is a bit ambiguous…

        • He's not talking Lee, he's talking about Nguyen.

        • Nguyen is a Vietnamese not Chinese. :)

        • -1

the comment I replied to was about foreign surnames….

        • So much confusion in a simple sentence -_-

        • The comment I replied to was for jack thefrost and ccwayne with the Chinese surname comment.

  • Its got my name AND my birthday so i want $20 off!

  • Do I get $30 off for 3 matching criteria? :O

  • Hooray for my common name lol

  • +1

Anyone tried this today? I don't wanna look, like a fool lol

  • Can confirm it works; some decent prices for some older games; took the phone in and came up cheaper than other stores, gets a + from me, thanks for details OP.

  • +1

Ended up getting uncharted 1&2 for $26. Then popped in next door to pick up my uncharted 3 for $10 thanks to this other deal: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/102537
