DX.com banned site?

Back on the 10th May between 17:46 and 18:40 there was a DX post regarding the 50% off sale that was to start on the 15th May.
It was removed and marked as: A Big Sale! 50% off ! (Banned Site).

Fair enough.

But here we are on the 15th May and the same sale is posted by someone else and now its not considered a banned site?
A bit rough on the original poster (not me btw).

I had planned on posting the deal myself after receiving the email on the 10th but saw that someone beat me to it.
When I went back to comment on it I see its removed.
So could you explain what the difference is between the two?
Its hard to compare once they are removed.

Thanks.

  • DX's employees/reps were continiously spamming our site. We first just put a block on rep only posts but then they started creating new accounts pretending to post as regular users. We had no choice but to block dx deals.

The current deal was posted by a long standing member and seemed to be popular with the community, so we let it stay up. Note though, dx is still banned.

  • So given time the original deal would have been treated the same as the second?

    • The first time it was posted by a DX ghost account. That's why it was removed.

So yes, the reason says banned site which is true but also could be replaced by sockpuppeting or ghost account technicaly.

      • But I see there is a grey area, its generally a banned site but not banned if its not spotted quick enough and gets some positive votes.
But definitely banned if a rep posts it.

        • That's not quite it. Deals posted for banned sites will be removed.

We have no issue with regular users posting DX deals. Unfortunately, to avert DX spammers, we have had to ban the domain entirely. So maybe we need to think of a way where only non-new users can post DX deals. I can only really think of one other store where we had a similar issue (another HK based store).

Put it down to moderation discretion. I saw the deal posted last night before I went to sleep. Instead of linking to DX, they uploaded a screenshot. It had a number of votes. I checked out the user, edited the deal to point to dx, informed mods. Deal hits the frontpage overnight. Sometimes you need to strike a balance between want the community wants and dealing with bad businesses/employees.

        • Thanks.

  • Personally I'm very surprised does not have DX to be banned. Its basically a very very bad Kogan. Over reliant on China to do all the leg work and to get it right. I've gone back several times, because the prices are freaky low. Overall though the site is too dodgy, too often the an item is missing (trying to get you to revisit the site again maybe?) or its not as described.
