  • Presumably the blu-rays are american region rather than region-free?

    Darn shame.

    Edit:

According to the product descriptions, arietty and whisper of the heart are region free. No idea if amazon is usually accurate about region descriptions.

    • the ones region free that im sure off are marked so, just did some google research and checked amazon

      • Oh because I checked and amazon says

Region: Region A/1 (Read more about DVD/Blu-ray formats.)
For both Nausicaa & Castle in the sky (didn't check www.blu-ray.com)

  • +1

A + because JB hifi charges $30 each for these, but you can get genuine copies cheaper new on ebay.

  • +1

Looks like some of these were cheaper in the past via the UK (Zavvi.com). Hmm…

    • How much cheaper we talking here? And was it the same collection or just a few ghibli films? If it's just $1 then I think I'd rather buy some now then wait for the next sale (unless they occur frequently…?)
EDIT: Also, is shipping cheaper from the U.K.?

      • Look, it was only a few bucks here or there (delivered), but this is OzBargain!

        • Oh, I agree. When I said $1, I meant that literally. if it were $2, I'd think twice :P
Do you know if the sale on zavvi was only done once? Or part of a regular deal thing?

        • They always do but don't think they discount these titles as often. I think I'm going to give it a miss this time.

  • +1

It's great to see such good movies discounted but those prices are surprisingly high considering it's 55% off!
I guess the idiot aussie dollar doesn't help but still, the prices - at least for the blu rays is what I would be willing to pay NORMALLY, let alone on sale.

    • Anime is always expensive compared to regular tv shows and movies :'(

  • +2

No Spirited Away on Bluray :(

Been wanting to see that a second time for almost 10 years now. Going to wait till it's in HD before I do, and I've been waiting at least 5 years for a HD version…

They've already HDified movies even older than it. I don't understand why they haven't done this one yet.

  • Your mileage may vary, but dvd.co.uk also sells some titles. Shipping to AUS sometimes they drop the VAT and they charge a flat rate shipping per item. It means if you're only interested in say Arrietty only, could be cheaper than amazon.com.

  • I bought the whole collection DVD box set from Asian video store in China town Sydney for $120 had every single movie including the older ones.

  • WTB KURENAI BUTA BRD T___T

  • I tend to buy Studio Ghibli & other Anime Blu-ray's from Amazon UK - and the ones I just checked are all $10+ cheaper than Amazon.com - even after these discounts (which are still there now btw).

    Example 1:
USD $26.09 (Google conversion: AUD $26.17)
    http://www.amazon.com/Nausicaa-Valley-Two-Disc-Blu-ray-Combo…

    £9.74 (Google conversion: AUD $15.02)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nausicaa-The-Valley-Wind-Blu-ray/dp/…

    Example 2:
USD $29.25 (Google conversion: AUD $29.34)
    http://www.amazon.com/Whisper-Heart-Two-Disc-Blu-ray-Combo/d…

    £12.23 (Google conversion: AUD $18.86)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Whisper-Of-The-Heart-Blu-ray/dp/B005…

And the UK Amazon doesn't have any particular special on these currently, though prices do fluctuate a bit.

Blu-Ray anime is quite often cheaper via the UK, whether it's Amazon, The Hut, Zavvi or Sendit etc and the bonus for us (that have region locked players) is that they are (in almost all cases) the same region (B) and more importantly, for me, they are always releases that have the original Japanese Audio with English Subtitles - I'm personally not interested in Dubs or Hollywood stars recreating these classics.

  • Castle in the Sky & Ponyo Blu-ray's are about $8 cheaper from UK.
Arietty is $10 cheaper $19.30 (amazonUK) vs $29.96 (amazonUS)

  • The USA specials aren't still there. e.g. I think Nausicaa blu-ray was selling for around $18. It seems that you're right in saying UK was cheaper though. In fact, the UK blu-ray Nausicaa was selling for less than the UK's DVD Nausicaa… I should probably cancel my order.

    • Not sure where you got the price from or what page you were looking at but the up to 55% off deals are still there now.

If the price drops in the checkout process it's usually because tax/taxes are removed.

Most discounts in the promotion are not 55% off, unless this Gold Box Deal of the Day promotion strangely changed midway through?

Edit. The original page of the deal is still there but maybe I missed the whole promotion, my bad?

      • Yeah, you missed hte whole promotion. All of the DVDs and Blu-Ray were around 54% off. E.g. Whisper of the Heart was selling for a bit less than what the U.K is offering now.
(I bought the DVDs so I don't know the exact price.)

        • Thanks. I'm annoyed that I didn't check OzBargain yesterday or whenever the deal was active.
