  • Wow a lot of blurays for $31, that's only $4 a movie. Decent titles too. I shall buy, thanks.

Edit: the description is very confusing, first it states it's a 10 disc DVD box set featuring 7 movies, which excludes Deja Vu. Then when the subtitles are listed, Deja Vu is there. And in the product details it has number of discs; 8.
Also, it's listed as pre order for July.

  • Dunno about anyone else, but why would I buy Game of Thrones "Box Set" when the series is not complete? It's like buying the first two Lord of the Rings in a box set…

    • +5

Because at the rate they're being written they may never be complete.

      • thanks for posting that… I hadn't caught on to these series yet, so have no idea it's not a complete set until I saw this.

      • Yeah I should have said the books aren't finished…

True lostn, but I am hoping if that happens, someone will finish it like the Wheel of Time.

        • They could get the same guy. Brandon Sanderson writes books much faster. A 1000 page book he can do in a year, instead of 7 years like GRRM. But it will be weird having a box set that has 5 books from one author and 2 books from another.

Personally, I do see the TV series catching up to where Martin is with the books and then running out of content to adapt and having to proceed ahead of the books. Truly embarassing considering the first book came out in 1996, and he's had so much time to finish it.

        • In case anything ever happens to Martin he has already given a bunch of notes to the writers of the shows for some of the main plot lines that may be revised for future books. But should anything happen they have quality writers and the information to follow on with the story.

I honestly don't think Martin wants to ever finish the books, he takes forever writing them and is forever increasing the length of the series. The series was originally a trilogy followed by 4 books, 6 and finally now 7. But not only did it take him 5 years to put out 'A Dance with Dragons' but it was far bigger then it was meant to be like all of his previous books. Not to mention it was the middle act for the series, which was meant to be the second book originally and it was the 5th!

My money is on one of 3 possible outcomes.

          • Martin dies before the series is completed and it is finished by another writer in 2 books (and possible spin offs pending their popularity).

          • Martin finishes the series around the age of 80 with 9 books, tells everyone that he is working on a book of short story's in the ASOFAI series which never gets completed.

          • Martin finally admits that he has grown tired of the ever expanding series and ends it quickly with the 6th book followed by him 'retiring' from writing.

        • he could've just end the series and then write books that are of an era before the first book?

that's how some writers got away with it.

        • Martin gets sidetracked easily. Writing the book is more of a hobby, plus he's involved in the TV series. I am fairly certain that even if he stays in good health, he will not finish book 6 before the show finishes adapting all of book 5.

        • he could've just end the series and then write books that are of an era before the first book?

that's how some writers got away with it.

But then he'll write 5 prequels 1000 pages each, 6 years apart. Achieved only via life extension.

  • Game of Thrones- just be aware that this is NOT the HBO TV Series on Bluray.

    • Yeah that's right it's not the HBO TV series.

Going by the product details it's a series of paper back books based on Game of Thrones. 5216 pages. That's a lot of reading.

      • is the HBO TV series more interesting? or abridged?

        • +2

The HBO version is possibly the best book adaption ever. It's not perfect but it is incredibly good. The only problem is that you will read a lot of spoilers if you love the twists in the show.

        • not clicking into the link, but do you mean that if I were to go onto this, i should watch the HBO series first then read the book?

        • The TV series is great, but the books are even better.

        • +1

I approached it through audiobooks (travel alot) and found it most enjoyable slowmo. The films are pretty close so it may depend on your preferred format. I've been listening to audiobook and watching when they come out on disc. EC has posted the paperbacks @ amazon and it is a good price as per my first comment. Costco can be cheaper if circumstances suit.

        • thanks cornbeef.. will have a look, didn't know costco stock the books. I would like the audio books too as I drive an hour or so to drop my wife to work.

        • +1

my preference is for the audiobooks read by Ray Dotrice rather than Roy Avers slowmo.

          Comparison here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJSwfseolxE

        • +1

          thanks cornbeef!
Yeah, after comparing, I think I prefer Dotrice more… Avers somehow came to me like a broadcaster in a Fallout radio channel.

        • I'd disagree on it being the best book adaptation.

The Shawshank Redemption movie is actually significantly better than the short story it's based on, for example.

GoT is a great TV show based on a great book series. It's not as faithful as, say, the LOTR movies are to the books. The LOTR movies are faithful to the spirit without being faithful to the detail, the GoT TV series isn't particularly faithful to either but remains good in spite of it.

        • http://www.audible.com/series?asin=B006K1QER6. Though in light of certainly being shot down in flames this is not where I got the audiobooks from.

        • I prefer Jon Lee from Feast for Crows.

RoyD's voice is old, and lacking in range. His attempts at female voices are cringeworthy.

    • Correct. Apparently this is a ripoff of the TV series, with the scenes turned into words written on several 100 broken e-ink readers, obviously broken because each e-ink reader is stuck on one page. I've never seen anything like it. HBO should sue.

    • it's in reverse holly. the books are called a song of ice and fire and the hbo series is based on these.

  • Cheap blurays grabbed them thx

  • Game of thrones book set at this price isnt cheap. It normally sells for $34 at costco when in stock.

  • Any reason why amazon says this is a pre-order? Aren't all 5 books out already?

    • Sure. But books have editions, print runs, that sort of thing. This is probably a new "omnibus" or whatever.

  • Ah couldn't be bothered waiting. Bought the 7 book set off ebay for $60…

Also, "Publication Date: 29 Oct 2013". Don't know if this date is correct, but if so you guys are going to be waiting a long time….. :/
