Cordless Phone

Hi,

I'm looking for a cordless phone to replace the 15 year old Panasonic one in the house so I need some recommendations.

Is it possible for me to have a cordless phone (with the dock thingy) without a phone socket in my room? I'm sick of having to leave my room to pick up the phone. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Thank you.

  • Look for a good deal on a twin or triple pack e.g. http://dicksmith.com.au/printers-office/cordless-telephones. You can attach the main unit, which may also contain an answering machine, in the main room at the socket. The other cradles are used to charge the remote handsets, but they communicate with the main base station wirelessly. So you just have to plug them in to power. Have the main unit in the kitchen or whereever the Telstra plug is, and have a remote phone next to the bed and in the lounge room etc.

    • I didn't know it was that easy. Thanks. What do you think of this unit? http://dicksmith.com.au/product/F3036/uniden-dect3035-1-cord…

      • I'm a Panasonic fan myself, but Uniden do make some good phones too. It seems this one is not one of them. Read the reviews, everyone is complaining about dropouts. http://dicksmith.com.au/product/F3036/uniden-dect3035-1-cord… If you can, look at getting one that does not operate on 2.4GHz as you will have problems with conflicts from wi-fi, microwave ovens and other consumer devices.

        • I have that Uniden model for 4-5 years, apart from the battery going on both handsets at pretty much the same time (about 2 years after buying them), I have had no problems.

replacement batteries can be ordered on ebay from an Aus seller for $4 each delivered (or cheaper from china with a wait). http://tinyurl.com/bcsvpf5

I'd buy another uniden set if I had to.

  • avoid uniden - siemens are the best, else panasonic
