Is this monitor a flop commercially speaking? It seems to be available very cheap very often for a relatively new model. I'd be all over it if it had 1200 vertical. But for my purposes the narrow vertical outweighs the awesome horizontal realestate. Shame, I'd be tempted to buy more than 1 if not for that.

Edit: Maybe I have to let go of my love for the 1200 vertical… Any owners of one here care to offer feedback on theirs?

    • Yeah I just noticed it was 1080p not greater. That makes me sad. I wish it was at least 1200p or, if they were really nice, 1440p. I would love it to be 2560x1440.
That said, 2 of these side by side would be pretty sweet. Cept for the bevel…..

      • True, certainly is tempting!

At the moment my plan is to upgrade my old dual 2407's with 3 x 2412's or 2410's (both 16:10), I'd love to go up to 27" but not possible in 16:10 and can't afford the 30" either. Especially when I know I'd want TWO of them lol.

Dual mode would be nice, maybe I could overlook its shortcomings with 5120 horizontal resolution!

EDIT: Interesting fact, it uses 32W on factory default, my old 2407's use 58W each, so it's pretty much hight the power consumption! That's quite impressive really.

    • Is this monitor a flop commercially speaking?

Looks like it. Though I'm not at all surprised given its very odd aspect ratio of 21:9, which makes it good for watching video and awkward for just about doing evenything else.

everything with 21:9 ratio screens, from laptops to monitors and tvs have flopped. 90% of the time you will only be using half the screen.

I am loving the image quality and size of my Kogan 27" IPS at 2560*1440. The image and colour accuracy is much better than my 2012 13" MBP.
That being said, my old model can't remove the base of the stand for the VESA mount and I have made use of a strategically placed blob of blue tack over the painfully bright blue power light. The newer version features a great looking removable stand and has dropped from $450 to $400.

To no avail, I recently tried to dissuade my friend from buying this 21:9 monitor. It's just too wide.

We have one at work, nice looking monitor but 1080 vertical pixels is limited. Strangely its the horizontal pixels that cause issues, Idea was to run two windows side by side but apps don't look great at 1280x1080 when we're all now accustomed to 1920x1080.
unit is actually smaller then expected as 29" diag on this aspect is less screen area then the 16:10 on say the 30.
have considered getting a 2nd and running two above/below but will wait for an affordable 4k, 3840x2160, instead.

  • Great price!

anyone have any luck with the 10% or 15% codes

    The NRMA one doesnt work.

    • They dont usually stack with cash off.

    8ms response time? eh?

    • you won't notice it

most monitors with 2ms is actually 6ms G to G…

      • Ahh k no idea where I heard response time was a big thing. I thought 2ms was standard haha. Thanks

        • The TN monitors usually have around 5ms response time, but 8ms is pretty standard for IPS monitors such as these (which generally have better colour quality/detail than TN monitors).

You generally wouldn't notice it though - would be quite smooth

      • So you guys are saying there is a difference between 8ms TN panel and 8ms IPS panel?

I won't notice any ghosting when playing fps games on the IPS?

        • No ghosting what-so-ever and you can overclock it to 85HZ confirmed.

  • very tempting… my Dell 2311H is still going strong…

  • Odd shaped monitor, don't think people would purchase it if viewed in person hence the regular price drop.

    • +2

Actually i think people would purchase it if you seen it in person. i seen the LG 29 inch and doesnt look bad at all.

        only if they were drunk.

Beer goggles also works on computer hardware? Never knew :)

    • its made for movies, with all the directors wanting a 2.39:1 ratio, us poor consumers get black bars to accommodate for our measly 16:9 or 10 screens.

    • You are wrong the only reason for the price drop is due to low demand the uniqueness and fact that this monitor is unusual not because it is oddly shaped .

    Dell UltraSharp U2913WM 29" Ultra-Wide Monitor @ $419 or YAMAKASI 300 LEONIDAS 30" @ $700

is the yamakasi worth the $280 premium?

    • How do the resolutions compare?

      • 1600 vertical on the yamakasi. thinking of getting a 27" QNIX QX2710 2560x1440 instead and on the plus side it is cheaper aswell with more surface area.

  • If you're a coder (or a writer) and don't mind buying a better VESA stand for this, you could mount it vertically, which would give you a tremendous amount of vertical screen space.

  • +3

I have this monitor , excellent . A lot of new games support this ratio .

      E.G. World of Tank !!!!

You saw more tanks than the other player

    • Looks awesome on Borderlands 2.

  • +4

Picked up one a pinch over $400 near the beginning of the year, imo it's absolutely fantastic, colour accuracy is stellar and the resolution is perfect for anyone into 3D/Gfx work as it grants you the roomy area to work with as well as having all the usual palettes showing, probably not so practical for average Joe.

  • good price. But don't really like the screen format.

  • Can I rotate this monitor 90 degree?

    • you would have to get a VESA mount monitor arm to do that

  • I got one last time it works well in games with widescreenfixer also dependent on the panel you get the refresh rate is over-clockable.

I have managed to get 85Hz out of mine with no jerkyness or errors some people have gotten 90Hz games are very immerse and any developer will find it a dream especially if you get a vesa mount and turn it 90degress then you have 1080x2560.

Such a good price for an ips panel great for fps or mmo's.

Forgot to mention 3 year warranty just for this I got rid of my flimsy 29a950 samsung and got this.

  • How does this Samsung http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/pc-peripherals/monitors/e… at @149
    compare to http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=au&l… @ 199.

Their specs looks the same, except the price tag.

  • Well i for one just place my order been waiting for this to come back on special. For FPS shooter which is my primary usage the extra width on my 1920x1080 wide give me the multi monitor experience without excessive overhead on the video card. But each to there own…. Can't wait for it to be delivered!
Heaps cheaper than the LG http://www.ple.com.au/ViewItem.aspx?InventoryItemId=612388

  • Received it last Friday. Opened and plugged it, I love it. Now got two monitors per machine.

  • Received it, i havent opened it yet but damn it looks very wide which is just what i need as sadly i cant actually have 2 monitors in my current area.
