28 Degree Price Protection

Hi, I need some guide with my first 28 degree MasterCard price protection claim.

I bought a Nokia Lumia 820 from jbhifi for $428 four month ago with price matching kogan.com. Now jbhifi have dropped the price to $389 on their website and kogan further dropped price to $299. I am pretty sure jb can match $299 kogan price.

Question is whether I should claim the difference of $428-$$389=$39 or $429-$299=$130 as jb can match kogan.com's price. By the way, as the claim Is under $200, no proves of new prices are required by GE money insurance.

Any suggestions or past experiences?

thanks.

  • What do the 28 degrees T&C say? If they specify the price at the same store, I think that legally speaking you're only entitled to what jb hifi have reduced it to. If you don't have to provide proof, whether you will get away with using Kogan's price is another matter.

It says only within the same store or a store with the same name.

Yep and pretty sure it's with their selling price. Just because JB Hifi can pricematch it, their advertised selling price is still $389.

  • On the claim form, section A, part 6, they make you choose that Was the price reduction due to:

    Normal sale item
    Conditional on cash payment
    Price matching
    Special deal involving other benefits

does it include in store negotiated price matching price ?or has to be a advertised price?

    I am just guessing:
In an unethical way, you can buy another 820 at the price match price at JB and claim your Price Protection using the receipt. Then return the new 820 unopened to JB.

  • Strange form. Section B: Price verification form

Would a store representative be willing to fill out a claim form on someone's behalf?

  • I saw that no one had actually fully answered the query so I might as well confirm here. Price matching is not covered. If you look up the PDS it will actually state this.
