Suggested modem, ISP: TPG, distance to exchange 1.8km

Hi Guys,

Just signed up for adsl2+ with TPG and now looking at modems. I am approx. 1.8km from the exchange and am looking for a modem no more than $100.

I connect to it via ethernet cable but also need decent wireless to travel 10-15m down a hallway to the lounge room.

Any help on what to get would be appreciated!

  • Billion 7800

  • 7800NL? because i think the 7800NL only has 10/100 Mb/s ports..?

    Try this one

Less than $100, get very good reviews and has gigabit lan.

Billion 7800NL is decent.. but wifi range is only so-so. A lot of people reporting wifi dying unexpected on billion modems on whirlpool too (this problem plagues the EOL 7800n series but not sure if it affects NL as well).

    • nice. thanks scrimshaw

was actually looking at the modem you've linked! looks to be a goer can't find many negative reviews :)
      thanks!

      • one that supports open-source firmware such as dd-wrt or tomato might be an advantage. they usually offer a much richer set of features than the stock oem firmware tends to offer. it depends on how much you want to tinker around with your router.

any modem that will connect you to a provider other than TPG LOL

But saying that, Billion are the best around and most reliable.
When I was on TPG I found I got a much better user experience when I switched to the Billion 7800N
