1Password for Mac OS X and iOS 50% off

140

Been waiting for this password manager to come up as a discount. Just received a notification that it's 50% off the usual price.

OS X version was $51.99, now $25.99.
iOS version was $18.99, now $9.49.

Feel free to suggest if there is another password manager worth purchasing.

Hmm. I continually hear that it's well designed and intuitive to use, but it's still a lot to pay for a password manager when my Keepass (Win)+KeepassX (Mac)+MiniKeePass (iOS)+Dropbox setup is 100% free and integrates with Chrome.

  • Lets not forget Lastpass too :) -Different functionality but if you want to be super cheap, it can kind of do a similar job.

I have been using LastPass for years. Works across all browsers. https://lastpass.com/
    Windows Mac and Linux.
    It is free to use.

I choose to pay $12 per year for the Premium option which opens up al lof the mobile platform Apps plus other stuff.

  • this is great software (indispensable for me), but the price has jumped up dramatically over the years. i haven't tried the alternatives mentioned, but they may be worth a go before you buy this

  • use Dashlane!!!its awesome :)

  • Another Lastpass user here. Can't justify the exorbitant cost of covering my many and various devices.

  • 1 Password is a great password manager and can recommend it. The web browser integration is not that great anymore and fails every now and then. I got it in a Mac Bundle for cheaper. They usually have these sales when there is a new version soon - and it is expensive to upgrade - http://blog.agilebits.com/2013/05/24/1password-4-for-mac-is-…

    • According to the AgileBits site, if you buy 3.x now, the upgrade to 4.x is free.

  • I've been using 1Password for a while after picking it up in a Mac Bundle a few years ago, the iOS App integration with Dropbox syncing works really nicely. If I was starting from scratch though I'd probably try out the free Keepass option suggested above. KeePassX was really clunky when I used it before switching to 1Password though.

  • Hi, just wondering why you would you use this app instead of Keychain Access?

    • you can autocomplete and store more stuff, eg numerous credit cards, addresses, software serials etcetc

    • It's cross platform, generates secure passwords, and syncs to all your devices via DropBox.

  • Im also a 1Password user. It is a great piece of software and I would be lost without it.

Happy to pay the full price for a piece of software I use every day, so this price is a bargain.

  • Been using 1password for many years and it works well
I did get it when it was a lot cheaper for the mac plus I got the windows version in a bundle
once you own it, the upgrade price are reasonable.
Plus if you have the IOS version it can sync very easy between devices.

  • I just have to add to what others say: it's a polished, very capable, and actively supported and maintained piece of software. Having said that, I have not used the other managers extensively / at all, so they may be equally as good or better.

It manages logins, non-login credentials (e.g., router passwords and details, computer user accounts, etc.), software serial numbers and metadata (purchase source/date/amount/registered user name), finance accounts, and various online identities (auto-fill, of course) really well.

When I visit a new site and wish to create a new account, I use it to auto-fill my various details - including generating a strong password I never care to remember - and it remembers it all for later use.

Auto-login, seamless sync across devices via Dropbox, and responsive support are all highlights. Like iiCaptain, I've been using it for years, and like andrewchang it's something I use many times daily, so needless to say, it's highly recommended.
