Just received an email regarding my TechNet subscription expiring soon.

This is a cheap way to gain access to a wide range of Microsoft software legally at a reasonable price for your own personal use.

This includes Microsoft Windows OS, Microsoft Server Software (includes small business but NOT enterprise software), Microsoft Office for Windows and Mac, and more.

You're entitled to 2 licenses for each software for Standard subscriptions.

I think professional allows up to 10 licenses per software (Can someone confirm if this is the case?) as well as access to the enterprise server platforms.

Just apply the AUONLY30 code when purchasing to receive 30% off.

This discount applies to Australia residents only. For more information, be sure to read the details at the web site.

NOTE: When you first click on BUY or RENEW, ensure your location is set to Australia in the top right hand corner. Otherwise, the default location is set to United States.

  • Any Action Pack discounts as well? mine is due…

    • Not that I know of buddy. You can always try using the code to see if it works when you renew your action pack.

Not bad ! 30% is a decent discount for this. I might just buy it this time.

When you go to checkout - it doesn't list Australia (only gives US/Canada as an option). Also the code AUONLY30 doesn't work with both countries :-(

When you first click on BUY or RENEW, ensure your location is set to Australia in the top right hand corner.

  • How does this compare with US prices?

    • US Pricing is still cheaper, but when it comes to payment, they verify your credit card mailing address to see if it is based in the US or Canada.

I haven't found a way around this. Let me know if you do.

      • I wonder if a prepaid Visa / Mastercard would work?

  • renewal price is still $306 for me after applied the code :(

    • Is that for professional?

  • When does this expire? I wont be studying till August

    • My TechNet doesn't expire till 31st of Jul, so maybe then, but I can't be sure.

  • reminds me i needed to renew but guess i can't, hitting renew gives me

    Renew Technet Subscription

    Error renewing your account

An error occurred while retrieving your subscription information. We cannot find a subscription associated with your account that is ready to be renewed.

    You can try to:
Close your browser and retry the operation again in a few minutes.
Contact support and renew by phone.

    • I think that happens after three months, I got something similar from memory.

  • Anyone else get the error
"1088 - There is a technical issue that we are actively working on. Please try again later. If the problem persists after 24 hours, please contact our support team and reference error code 1088 for assistance."
after trying to pay for their subscription?
Completed all my details twice and got that error twice can't be bothered doing it a 3rd time now.

  • Much cheaper to buy renewal from Amazon or other US store
    TechNet Std Renewal US$159 - http://www.amazon.com/Technet-Standard-English-Programs-Rene…
    TechNet Pro Renewal US$258 - http://www.amazon.com/TechNet-2010-English-Programs-Renewal/…

Get them shipped over with a freight forwarder (I recommend www.shipito.com).

    • Isnt Technet an online subscription?

      • This provides you with a Serial (much like Office) that you provide to MS Support for a 12 month renewal. I've used them for years.

  • when does this deal expire ?

  • Deeky…
Depending on what you are studying, you will not need Technet.
If you are studying Windows Server, just download the 180 day trial. You can also re-arm to extend the trial.
If you are studying Exchange 2010, just download Exchange Service Pack 3. It never expires, just prompts with a warning after 180 days.
Technet gives you an extended evaluation period.
Check out the linke to see what you can evaluate -

  • Yeah the US site is much cheaper, Im looking at buying it for future IT certification and training etc,
Also is this claimable on tax?

  • If you are looking at buying Technet you should look at Action Pack as well… You may be surprised by the value for money if you REALLY use MS software inhouse..
    https://mspartner.microsoft.com/en/us/pages/membership/actio…

    • TechNet is used for testing and development + training.

Action pack is used for business operations etc….

THey are very different licencing packs

      • Action Pack includes (at least) one TechNet subscription, gives you the right to actually use the software - see my mention "if you use MS software in house" = if you have/are an IT technician/consultant with an ABN. It obviously does not stop you from using the software for learning :-)

I stopped buying when I realized as an Australian I was getting charged almost twice the US price, I even made a submission to the parliamentary enquiry into IT pricing.
