Tow bar purchase and fit in SE Melbourne?

Hi all. Hopefully someone can assist.

I am looking to get a 1600kg tow bar fitted to my 4-year old Territory and am after some advice on a reputable and affordable supplier. I have had a bit of a look on google but there's not exactly a 'numero uno'.

I am in Bentleigh but would be happy to travel half an hour away to get it fitted. Local Ford dealer quoted me $660 and intimated that was because of the reversing camera making it a tricky job.

I know people fit these themselves but I dont want the bike rack falling off the tow bar as I am zooming down the coast… Cheers

    Hi Andrew,

I have been looking myself for Toyota Kluger.

My research suggests the price diff between Toyota and 3rd party doesn't warrant going non dealer.

I've also looked at self fitting - you have to be careful the fitting isn't going to stress the vehicle subframe if it differs from the OEM fitting points.

On mine - the 3rd party hitch protrudes under the rear bumper whereas the Toyota hitch has a cutout in the bumper for it - which looks better and sits higher - I wouldn't try cutting that out myself!
If ford can come with $150 of a non ford, I'd go Ford.

    • Thanks for the response, Dodgyd. Sound advice. Will just fire out some queries with suppliers and apply your $150 margin filter. Thanks again.

  • I went to Performance Exhaustin Gafney St Coburg recently to get my 1600kg tow bar. Cheapest place by far and they use a Melbourne made bar. Ive had no issues with mine and saved a packet on a dealer bsr.

    • Thanks for letting me know, brettule. Cheers
