whats the difference with WD8960? I have WD8960 at home really love it

    • I'm using TD-W8960N at home too.

    • Maybe a bit off topic, but how is your speed on your 8960. Mine can only get 700k on Wifi but the router says 20M connection to the DSL

      • whats the difference with WD8960?

I currently also have a TD-W8960N & the difference is a broadcom chipset.

        • so that means no more snr tweaking

        • so WD8960 should be better then - because broadcom is known for stability?

        • +2

trendchip is better with short lines from exchange

broadcom are better for long lines where stability is an issue

        • +2

Trendchip syncs higher than broadcom, and is ideal if you are within 2km of exchange.

Broadcom is more stable over long distances and copes better with noise. This is ideal for DSLAM distances exceeding 2km.

          beaten by 9 secs.

      • Mine can only get 700k on Wifi but the router says 20M connection to the DSL

Depends on your network card/device. Is it 802.11g? If its 802.11n, will also depend on how many antennas are supported on the NIC (more antennas [upto 3x] = more transmitting & receiving signals = higher throughput/speed). Oh, and signal strength, distance from AP & whats between you & hub are variables which also have an effect.

      • Have never measure my wifi - all I know I've been using it to stream 1080p movie from Synology wirelessly to WD TV Live streaming without any lags or issues.

    • There is a difference at power consumption level.
Note the power supply of WD8960 is 12V/1A, and of W8961ND is 9V/0.85A. This doesn't necessarily mean anything else other than power consumption itself though.

  • Does it do VOIP, I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere?

How else does it compare to the WD8960?

    • Good spotting. added to desc.

  • it would be wise to get a dual band modem/router nowdays.

  • so is this broadcom or trendchip?

its 1pm now.. so its finished?

    • This is Trendchip. Dunno about website but I just bought one via ebay, that shouldn't expire

      • They increased the price by a couple of bucks. Still cheaper than the store though.

  • 10/100 ethernet WTF!? Gigabit has been standard on PCs for how many years now?

  • my voip modem router netgear died and I gave up and got bob2 lite from iinet.
is that comparable.? i know the offer has d on this but just for info.
iinet forced me to have a 2 year contract on this free modem where they charge you almost all the $120 'price ' if you break it. but not knowing about these things it was a pain trying to learn on the hop
