My brother has managed to break his iphone case - better than the phone I guess
Current case is an Otterbox - not sure model - tough and bulky but not waterproof
he would like similar but waterproof (well water resistant I guess) as well
Any suggestions on what to buy and where?
Preference for shockproof, water resistant and the less bulky the better
I figure there may be bargains for 4 cases as the 5 is long out now?

+1 on lifeproof. I had one on my ipad when i was travelling through asia and europe…it was awesome.

I wouldn't buy the LifeProof cases from eBay. So cheap but if they are genuine is another question.

I had the Otterbox and got rid of it cause the rubber surround made it get stuck in my pocket.
I would suggest the lifeproof case had it for a year now and its awesome apart from plugging in no standard accessories.
Have thrown it when frustrated with apple products and still survived. Many times.
