  • wow.. pretty good deal for the 4 bay deal..

    already have N40L.
can live without this 4 bay nas ;)

    • Maybe, but…

The "Double $50" can -only- be spent at ShoppingExpress's store…

Why don't folks looking for a NAS box pay about -half- for the:

      • "Netgear ReadyNAS RND2000 Duo Diskless NAS" (at top of cited page)

It's the only way I see to "win" (ie, save) almost $100 to spent anywhere.

      • Store voucher aside - you are receiving a Free copy of Trend Micro with $50 Cash back. That is alone is worth at least $100?

Also.. there are youtube videos of the NAS in action where people can have a look at the new Interface
        http://www.netgear.com.au/home/products/storage/prosumer/RN1…

What Netgear has offered in the new O/S is an easier to use interface over the old ones - probably not be relevant to you but might be useful for some with much less technical knowledge?

        Cheers
        SE

        • IMO, such freebies are worth the RRP only if you were going to buy it…

(Also: Does TrendMicro work on a NAS, or only on buyer's other computer.)

Ease of use can work for anyone (incl me), but it's hard to measure…

Are there some independent reviews that agree with it assessment of the new O/S?

        • The RRP is $79.95. I am just mentioning an average lowest sale price for this product on the web or ebay etc - so i believe i am indicating the price guide as fair as i could :).

Trend work on buyer's other computer.

There is a review for 104 with installation guide - might want to check it out?

  • I don't think $50 off your next purchase constitutes "cash back". They AV deal sends you $50, yours does not. Maybe being pedantic but to earn your $50 I'd have to spend even more which certainly isn't putting $50 a gratis in my wallet.

Agreed, revised my title to reflect the offer

      cheers
      SE

    • I don't see anywhere where the $50 voucher is referred to as "cash back". The title simply says double $50 "offer", and the details make it clear that one is a voucher and the other is cash back.

Edit: Given OP's comment above I'm guessing it was changed before I saw it. Ignore my comments :)

        Hi carbontwele,

Berek is absolutely right on his comment. I did revise the title as fast as i could :).

        Regards
        SE

        • Why not make it perfectly clear, eg, by adding "for" after $50… and "'s store only" after the URL link?

          TIA

Last time I checked, Cash worked at any Aussie store, etc.

About the NAS's, for the $200 + S+H, one can buy an older HP MicroServer (eg, NL40 or, in a pinch, NL36, from memory)…

which - by contrast with the single-function ReadyNAS's - offer a multitude of functionality and (last time I checked) more RAM and - in any of the named HP models - twice the number of bays!

There are several cost-free, Open Source NAS systems (and lots of other full Linux or FreeBSD, etc.systems to try, as well).

I grant that a ReadyNAS has a less steep learning-curve… but - for a person wanting to learn more about servers, & / or some of the variations of full-function (ie, more than NAS functionality) operating systems…

the popular (even older versions of) HP microservers are really the better choice, IMO.

Go look at what you can learn, eg, with TurnKey Linux 12.1 (eg, installing & working with the kaZillion app's that easy-install & run on it… all cost-free Open Source software):

(It's showing in an article on DistroWatch.com at the moment)

      My 2.2 cents only, folks.

  • Just a warning, anyone who is purchasing a ReadyNAS for the Time Machine backup function needs to think again. The Time Machine feature is rubbish and unreliable, exactly what you do not want from a backup feature.

Apart from that, it is decent. I own an older Duo and a new NV+ and except for the Time Machine issue have been very happy.

    Good price too.

  • Off-topic - From my research, I'd spend the extra $30 and get the Synology DS213J - much much much better software

    http://www.synology.com/products/product.php?product_name=DS…

    • I have ReadyNas and Synology. I have to say that I prefer the Netgear software. It's less sophisticated but for my needs it's more than enough. I have looked at some of the advanced features on both product sets. I have used iSCSI for external placement of my database server files and media servers of both systems but many of my friends (even those in IT) don't bother. One annoying aspect with the previous release of the Synology software is that it did not support PC backup with Windows 8 clients. I have not checked with the latest release.

  • I am not going to neg this deal as it has the $50 offer attached… however just a quick check on Google shows that these prices are nothing special. i.e http://www.arc.com.au/pub.php?gid=23563&pid=53525&p=product
