Ariston 7.5kg Washer/4.5kg Dryer Combo $798 @ Harvey Norman (RRP $1499)

71

Was looking around for a washer dryer combination as I have very little room available in my laundry. Found this one in the Harvey Norman 1/2 yearly clearance sale. Most washer dryers seem to be around or over $1000, so seems cheap. As for the rrp, you can't really shop around as I believe ariston is a Harvey Norman exclusive brand. As usual with Harvey Norman, sign up to the website to get $5 off, bringing it to $793. Can get 24 months interest free as well.

The simple and compact laundry solution for small spaces - this stylish Ariston washer dryer combo features 16 wash programs, special cycles, special functions; two drying options and 1200 rpm maximum spin speed.

Are you sure you want to buy an Ariston?

They don't have the best reputation for reliability compared to say Bosch….

Totally agree! I had an Ariston that had a great review but it was the biggest lemon I've ever bought. Don't do it!
Take a look at the reliability tests on Choice before purchasing. Bosch is one of the most reliable brands.

      • one of the reasons i posted this on here apart from it being cheap, was that I was hoping someone could give me a personal review. I have read some reviews, but pretty much every review of any of the washer dryers I looked at that weren't a stupid price were all very poor. This one actually had one of the better reviews that I read.

I have the little brother of this machine (ARML125), and the main difference seems to be that mine doesn't have the little LED display (even looking at the manuals this seems to be the main difference).

First up, I would never buy the washer/drying at list price (for me it came with an apartment I purchased), but I agree, the price you have found it for is a very good price.

Something I have read many people say, if you have the space to get a separate washer/dryer (or only need the washer) don't go with one of these combos. I can't imagine too many components common between these two devices, which is probably why traditionally they are separate.

The first thing I noticed with my machine prior to using it was that it was damp inside. This was after it had been sitting, unused for a month or so, so johnd320's comment about body rusting and motor seizing doesn't surprise me. These days I leave the door open after using it to allow it to dry out. Recently I have also noticed detergent sitting in the drawer after the wash (it hasn't all washed through), so again the disintegration of the plastic drawer doesn't surprise me.

Well I guess I should balance that up with some positives, it does come with a 5 year warranty, so it means it should at least last me that long. It also seems to do a pretty reasonable job of washing (I am comparing this with a couple top loader Fisher and Paykels).

In summary, I can see why people are negative about this washing machine, but if you really only have space for a single machine, and want both wash and dry, this machine does seem to be average/above average in this respect.

Edit: BTW this machine is also noisy (which I guess should be expected with the 1200rpm spin), just something I hadn't thought of, and it caught me off guard first wash.

Ariston is owned by Harvey Norman.
The sales people must sell the brand , they are paid on it..
Bosch is an excellent product. (German Made) only
I think products by Electrolux are good value with good service.(Australian)

Before considering Ariston products, you may wish to read what Ariston owners have to say about them.
    http://www.productreview.com.au/c/front-loading-washing-mach…

Some of the Ariston issues are: Body Rusting, Bad Harvey Norman Service, Unreliable, It eats clothes, bad warranty service, Detergent drawer plastic has disintegrated, The motor seizing within a few months of purchase.

When a Harvey Norman / Domayne salesperson attempts to bully you into buying a Ariston Product, remember he / she is not giving you independent advice. The GERRY HARVEY is the importer and retailer of Ariston.

Many people have reported that they entered a Harvey Gerry store intending to buy a quality Bosch or Miele product, only to be mislead and deceived, resulting in a Ariston product. Gerry, you are your stooges have No Shame.

  • it is hard choice as you limited space in your house but avoid Ariston and avoid two in one solutions in any brand. a lot less reliable compared to buying seperate units.

  • It is funny how some people write about products without owning them, I work in apartment developments and amongst all brands Bosch has the worst service and this is a known fact on our line of business,

For service F&P and Meile are amongst the top, Ariston is middle tier. I had an Ariston Oven that lasted for 8 years in my old house no complaints, whereas the Bosch washing machine needed repairs almost twice a year. I guess it comes down to luck sometimes.

Like mentioned above if you have the choice always by the washer and dryer separate.

    • I used to work for Bosch.
      Agree service is diabolical.
I disagree F&P is any good , used to be not any longer owned by Haier.
Ariston is not middle of the range.

  • I have owned a Ariston Gas cooktop for a year now. No problem at all. It just fantastic. With 19 MJ/h power in a 75cm compact package you do not look back to any other fancy one. Not like my $1700 Bosch oven. Noisy fan from brand new, took their service contractor 3 visits in 2 month to replace the fan unit… other than that, the oven is really good. temperature is about 20 degree more accurate than the 10 year old Westinghouse.

  • I don't own an Ariston but do have a Samsung washer/dryer combo. Like you the reason I got one is due to the limited space in the laundry. I now have it for nearly 5 years and it's still going strong (fingers crossed!)… One of the functions I like is the delay function. Hopefully Ariston's got the same feature. I time it so that it finishes washing and drying just as I get up in the morning. This also means it is running during the off-peak time (we have time-of-use power meter).

Good luck with your decision! Hopefully you get something you really like and isn't a lemon.

  • I had an earlier model of this washer/dryer combo. It has lasted 7 years but is on its last legs. It has been reliable, but is a pain having washer & dryer as a combo. Note the dryer capacity is smaller than the wash. So if you want to use the washer/dryer in 1 cycle you can only wash up to 5kgs or you have to take stuff out as this is the dryer capacity. Otherwise you will find your clothes will take forever to dry. Also note the wash times. Some wash/dry cycles can be 3hrs from start to finish. I use the 30 minutes cycle. It is fast & very gentle on clothes. It cleans much better than a top loader, even on the 30 minute cycle in my opinion. However the wash capacity of 7.5kgs isn't enough for my requirements & I have tended to overload it and now I have problems with the belt slipping off everytime I wash more than a couple if towels.

  • When I purchased my washing machine at harvey norman yesterday they gave me 6kg omo washing powder and free surge protector even though it was not an advertised extra. Might be worth asking for these extras on this model.
