Dupe. From memory, we weren't sure if the dick smith model has the cashback, but if you price match it from officeworks you get it for $303, and they definitely have the cashback :) The processor is a B960 2.2GHz.
    OW Link: http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…
    Be aware low stock.

    • Well then, it's a good deal to price match with officeworks.

    • Let me retract my statement that you will "definitely" get the cashback from OW, and change it to "most likely", as a fair few others have had success. But the product on the officeworks website is the E1-531-B9604G50Mn and the one that i received was the E1-531-B9604G50Mnks, so I don't know if the Mn has the cashback as well, or whether they are both the same laptop and the ks on the end is redundant.

      • From previous experience they just drop the ks - but best to check instore with the SNID.

      • Just beware that Acer will only provide the cashback for the E1-531 if the part number/SKU matches one of (UN.M12SA.028, NX.M12SA.006, NX.M12SA.005, NX.M12SA.002).
Failing that they will NOT give you the cashback even if the Full model number E1-531-BXXXXXXXXxxxx matches.

        • Hey EarlyBird, where do you see "NX.M12SA.005" on the cashback list? I only see "NX.M12SA.006", and on checking the units I've located in store I could only find "NX.M12SA.005".

Picked one from OW on the weekend -
    $303
less $15 approx ING cash back
    less $27 approx TRS
    less $49 cash back
    Just over $200.
    YAY.

PS: It comes with Windows 8 - If there is a more difficult and annoying platform, I have yet to hear of it. Bill Gates must be wanting to lose money

I've actually been using it for a long time now with no issues. But then again I'm good at adapting to new tech and interfaces, so maybe people who aren't that great with computers find it hard. Yes it's different but it's not really THAT different. It's pretty much a full screen start menu.

        Tolerable with Start8

    • "less $27 approx TRS"

      What's TRS?
Did DSE put it through as multiple $99 transactions?

Mick, You sir, win at ozbargaining

    • wasn't there a way to get the windows removed/ licence taken away and microsoft refund you for that?

and you use ubuntu as your OS (or turn it into a hackintosh)

    • ING cashback is only for purchases under $100 isn't it?

      • you need to split the payment

      • and he needs to be heading off os soon to get that TRS… Porkies maybe?

    • Plus an international flight (needed for TRS). I think others will come off better if not needing that flight.

  • Thanks OP.

  • Just back from a round trip to Officeworks Aspley, then Dick Smith Brookside. Checked the SKU on the sticker of both units, and they don't match that which is on the cashback list. The list specifies "NX.M12SA.006"… the SKU on both units was "NX.M12SA.005"—SO CLOSE, but one number out. I'm pretty sure Acer won't approve this… huge shame.

    • Okay… so found a DIFFERENT Acer cashback list, and it IS on that one. I'm not sure how I managed to find two different lists via Google, but I did. So I can confirm that the SKU on the items I've seen at the above locations are correct.

      • Linkie Linkie? Also do Acer have any problems with me submitting multiple cashbacks if I purchase four? Should I put each laptop through seperately and submit the cashback for each family member?

  • Update, just went to officeworks jandakot to grab another one, they had 5 left, and all 5 were "damaged/returned" stock. The surprised shop attendant's exact words were "wow, these mustn't be very good laptops". So yeah, expect to make use of your warranty.
Anyway, no stock in jandakot, 1 stock in fremantle, 15 stock in oconnor.

  • I picked up three last night at Officeworks in South Melbourne. Really great value for $303, seeming I am going overseas so I get the TRS plus the cashback (I got the .005 SKU) so ends up like $225.

The laptop itself is good enough once you install Start Menu Reviver to get back the start button and remove the Acer bloatware, office trial, symantec crap.

It is not designed for any modern gaming whatsoever, but on the other hand even under load it did not get very hot. I have been using small travel laptops for a long time, but the 15.6" chassis really helps with heat dissipation.

  • Expired? Price is $399

    • aye, looks like the 20% off at DSE is finished :(

      • Aww, was hoping to get one today after seeing this post. I'm travelling out of Sydney in 2 days :(

  • DAMMIT - when I bought this, I bought some other stuff as well, total approx $500. Put them through as $100 per tranx… Thought the 5% cashback was for $100 and under, not under $100. Only got cash back on $15 (total $515)

    $25 lost :(

You sir, no longer win at ozbargaining. Turn in your badge.

You know what you should have done? Worked for woolworths.
Then you could get the 5% price match, 5% ING, TRS, cashback, AND a staff discount :P
