  • r.i.p., Voda 0,5gbyte (2005)

  • I gave up on vodafail and bought a stack of those $30 telstra sims for $10 which give me enough call and net credit for a month and better network.
I just do the old temp $2 sim switchover every month or call telstra to transfer the credit which sometimes works.

When you stop feeding a dog it finds. New master.
    Woof

    • I am still on Voda 365 days, as I am out of the country a lot, so have little spend here (about $10/yr).
$20/yr (less any discount like this) for $20 credit, & some free Voda to Voda calls (which no longer roll over)
      But calls are 89c/min + 39c flagfall & Data is $2/MB!!
So this is my last year with Voda - taking my number back to T after 15 years.

Realised I could connect 2 $10 Telstra ($30) packs for a year giving me 365 days (with 2 $2 sim number transfers a year).
$24/yr for $60 T credit. Activated on LongLife for 6months & change to Simplicity for cheaper rates. MUCH better value :)
Calls are 15c/min with no flagfall & Data is 10c/MB :)

Bought $20 of apps from Google Play last night with surplus T credit & can easily transfer credit between accounts.
Also easy to set up a Starter Pack as IPad for 3GB data for $10. Can't do that on Voda!

  • I'm happy with Vodafone. I get reasonable reception at home, fast internet on holidays, and can use my $30 to SMS, call locally and call Australia when I'm travelling overseas. I was actually amazed the countries that Vodafone prepaid caps work in.

That said, my Telstra USB dongle has gotten reception in amazing places.

  • I put a $30 sim in my parent's iphone and it sends 1kb every hour on the carrier network even when connected to wifi - in 10 days time the balance is $0 without making a call - I'll stay away from vodafail!

    • Maybe turn off Data on the device, perhaps the GPS/Location is enabled on the phone and it's using cell tower locations to help triangulate its position faster when losing sight of the GPS satellites?
