Lowest $$ Mobile Phone Plan

Hi,

My mum was previously with 3mobile on a $10/month plan.

Vodafone no longer will offer this. Do you know what a good cheap plan is? (New phone not necessary)

Thanks for your help!

    Or Aldi PAYG…credit lasts 1yr…
    Calls/txt/data cheap & only Telstra Next G
    Virgin $19 simple (90 days credit & free virgin calls/sms + voicemail)
What does she want for her $10? (free voda calls, or something?)

Are you sure that Voda won't continue her $10 plan? I know someone is.

  • Yeah they sent a letter out to say they won't be continuing with the plan.
She mainly wants calls and texts, I don't think she'd use a lot of data.

  • If she won't use much data perhaps the Vaya Skinny plan for $11.20/month? http://www.vaya.net.au/?option=Mobile&4Gsimonly&plan=Skinny%…

  • If she's happy to go post-paid, then it's hard to go past Amaysim at the bottom end. I spend about $25 per YEAR on my phone.

  • Either Amaysim or Aldimobile would fit the bill I think. Call and text rates are the same. Min recharge for Amaysim is $10 every 3 months = $40/year. (There used to be a $5 recharge but I can't find it anymore, or maybe it is possible under postpaid billing.) Min recharge for Aldimobile is $15/year. With both providers she can get AYG data for 5c/MB. Aldimobile has better signal due to using Telstra, but one drawback is no international roaming in case she needs to receive SMSes (e.g. from bank) overseas (no charge for receiving when roaming).

  • I don't know what calls/etc. you got on that plan, but Virgin has a $19 plan that lasts 90 days. That's (about) $6.33 per month.

They also have a "long expiry" for $15 every 180 days. But I don't know if there's a catch with that, whereas I know the $19 for 90 days is genuine.

    Anyway, see them listed here:

http://www.virginmobile.com.au/prepaid-mobile-phones-plans/c… - click the + symbol for details on each plan.

BTW. If she only receives incoming calls and never makes any herself, once you're signed up with Virgin on one of the BYO phone plans, just stop paying them. I haven't had credit for months but can still receive calls.

    • Yeah, but you have to do the arithmetic to figure out whether $100 monopoly money for $19 real money is worth it for a 90c/min rate plus flagfall. Whereas Amaysim and Aldimobile don't do this kind of dodgy inflation, it's 12c/min in real money and no flagfall.

Mobile numbers will continue to receive for a while, generally 90 days, after the credit expires, but you are at the mercy of the provider when they want to cut you off.

  • Vodafone did have the $10 plan for 3 customer which gives you $19 value. Ask for it if you want to stay with voda. I've just rang them this morning and still looking for the lowest $$ plan with add on data.
