Hahaha that "12 months McAfee (blargh)" made me crack up. +1 just for that.

Also for an extra $120 you get better screen + Office + HDD space. Not too bad an option.
(Though I have no idea if this is a good deal though :P)

It's annoying, you used to be able to specify them without any antivirus at all (trial or full) but now it's compulsory.

That being said, Dell are pretty light on the software preloads these days, particularly on the Vostros, so I imagine it would be about the only thing you'd need or want to uninstall.

      • McAfee are others offer Dell a dollar or two or three for inclusion of anti-virus (which really says something about those products) and being a public, profit-driven company, Dell cannot refuse. However, they're easy to remove by anyone genuinely wishing to do so.

Personally, I'd go for Inspiron 17R Special Edition at $900. Everyone's trying to get rid of Ivy Bridge to make way for Haswell.

        • It only has Internal 10/100 Fast Ethernet. Why not Gigabit on this?

        • Who cares? More than likely, you'll be using WiFi.
