Exhaust shop that can actually weld?

I'm looking for an affordable exhaust shop that can weld an exhaust leak on my cat coverter shut. I'm only asking because I've seen some pretty shocking jobs when welding from places like Dandenong Exhaust. It seemed like they had no experience in welding. I live in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

Welding things like exhaust pipes and cat converters is very difficult because the metal is thin. Depending on the age of the car, if the converter is leaking then it may have corroded through. This means in the area of the leak that the metal will be very thin and almost impossible to weld. Have a look at Super Cheap Auto, I think they have some adhesives that work on exhausts. You may be able to glue a patch over the leaking area. If you do this please MAKE SURE THAT IT IS NOT LEAKING. People have died from leaking exhausts. The carbon monoxide (that's real carbon pollution) gets them. It's deadly in confined spaces.

  • As mentioned above this may work or something similar http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/online-store/products/CarGo…
I used this kinda stuff years ago on a bike where oil was leaking through a crack in a case. It lasted until I got rid of the bike :)

I actually went out and purchased my own welder :) Its actually cheaps of fun!

Sadly by the time the exhaust system is showing signs of rusting through, its actually better to get a new complete exhaust.. depending if you want to keep the car of course ? If not keeping car then these patches will be okay for short term.

This is handy for quick fix for tubing - http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/18186y19zvepkjpg/ku-xlarge.j…
