Barista Course

Usually I wouldn't care too much or even bother talking about a Barista course; most people that do it don't end up using anything they learn or working with coffee anyways. However, at work sometimes I get scheduled on the cafe, which I am most uncomfortable with the coffees as I mainly work at the bar. Hence I assume it would be a good idea to learn to make coffees properly. Any ideas about where to do this at a decent price?

  • Toby's Estate run some barista courses. Check their website for details.

Depending on where you are I have seen in Sydney advertisements for barista courses down George St opp QVB.

  • I did this course in Sydney via a group buy, not for a job but just for fun, they gave a cert and everything, pretty fun.

    At the moment it's $99

I worked as a barista the whole way through uni, and I have done a few different courses (paid for by my employer). Some are good (Tobys Estate was worth doing), but most are pretty useless.

Before you pay for one yourself, see if the coffee supplier you use at work offers training. Most do it for free, and some will come to your workplace to train you on the machine you actually use.

Failing this, your money would be better spent watching a bunch of youtube videos, then buying 10L of milk and practicing in your down time. Once you know the fundamentals, practice is all that matters.
