Same here I was expecting it to go free but it dropped to 0.99, just a bit too early.
If everyone got it free, the developer wouldn't bother with another version. If you paid $8, I'd understand, but $1 and you're unhappy?!?
I paid $1 and I have no regrets. I may be excommunicated for saying that ;)

remember to change your armor/weapons out after you master them or you won't get XP at the fastest rate. So consider that when you want to splash out on a pricey sword/armor - will the better stats be worth the XP loss?Also, Gems with Item drop +% leading to more gems are awesome - remember to sell the surplus/duplicate gems this will grant you :)

The first one you mentioned, it's the same, just displayed on the Chinese iTunes store (you'll find the same thing with itunes.apple.com/us/….. and tons of other countries :)
As for "Infinity Blade II, $2.99" you mentioned is actually the first Infinity Blade

Free from IGN website to obtain CODE, and redeem it from app store.
The game seems cancel the monthly subscription, so its like any other iOS game with gameplay add on.
