    Google Nexus 7

  • Cheaper… Like $50 as its only used to watch cartoons and will probably get dropped and broken…so looking for one cheap/fairly disposble

  • Hi andyman, to be honest I'm not sure about charging from USB as most usb ports don't provide enough current to charge a tablet whilst using it, or even when its off will charge very slowly.
In regards to $50 look at geekbuying.com, they are by far the cheapest and have a 1:1 or better rate conversion with the US dollar.
Select tablets, and then when they come up sort on low to high price and you can see all the options.

I would suggest this one but watch out for the small battery and 512mb ram for $59.

For another $13 you will get nearly 2.5 times the proccessing power in this one

If you can stretch to $85 this one is even faster, 1 gig ram/8 gig rom and twice the battery. It has got good reviews.

I only listed the 1024 x 600 resolution as you want to use for video.

    Cheers and good luck

  • The local HN (harvys) have one for $79 with local warranty. Thats very cheap for a local product; also checkout cash coverters

  • My cousin just picked up a 7" android tablet from a Kmart in W.A. for $69. Don't know anything more than that but I got to use it and it seemed to be pretty good, responsive, and sturdy…

    Here it is: http://www.kmart.com.au/product/audiosonic-7-capacitive-tabl…

  • What happens if he loves using the tablet and then he wants to use it for games etc and it's not powerful enough to run them?
Then you'll have to upgrade to a more powerful one for him and then theres more cash outlayed and an unused tablet sitting in the corner collecting dust.
Better off getting a better specced one in the first place. Thats just my opinion

I reckon you should just grab one second hand. You'll probably be hard pressed to find a Nexus 7 for $50, but just wait till the new Nexus 7 is out and the 8GB Nexus 7 will be <$100 for sure.
