  • TBH if you're going to spend $228 on a quadcopter you're much better off buying one that has a dedicated remote control.

for that price, I would invest in getting real RC

You can't really compare this to a standard RC.

For a start, it has a massive modding community.
It's easier to fly (even kids find it easy).
You can record right to your phone (ios and android).
They tend to be more durable to crashes (which is important to newbies).

Overall, if you're new to flying RCs, this is the quickest and easiest way to get into them.
And this price is great considering they were nearly double this when they were released.

"Overall, if you're new to flying RCs, this is the quickest and easiest way to get into them."

Also - one of, if not the most expensive. As it uses a teeny-tiny touchscreen as a remote, uses all propriety hardware and software, and only works within WiFi range, it's not practical to actually consider this even RC.

True oz bargainers would buy their own ESCs, flight controller, GPS, OSD, onboard HD camera, motors, props, Tx Rx, frame, battery and put it all together to get a much better product at around the same price.

Real noobs that want to get into RC, even young kids, should get themselves a $50 Bixler or the likes and a Turnigy 9x Tx Rx combo. It's around ~100 for a full 4ch trainer with a 1400mm wingspan that can crash over and over, and never need more than some hot glue and packing tape to fix.

      Just my 2c.

      • I would trust a 3 year old with an ar drone that hovers by itself over a bixler/rc plane. Unless if they are actually willing to put in the time then they are really different products

Common sense would say not to trust a 3 year old with the phone/tablet that controls it, let alone fly it. Sure it hovers by itself, it also can fly right into your face if you lack the motor skills to correct flight paths, or the cognitive skills to know the orientation of the craft in relation to what your pressing on the screen.

It doesn't have sonar sensors that prevent it flying into your face. At least with the bixler if you fly it into your face, you can repair the bixler easily :P

        • Haha good point :) I have seen a 3 year old 'fly' one though :) and they have that foam ring thing around them that is a little safer. Even to beginners though, unless if they are willing to put in the time on maybe a simulator or have someone teach them then an ar drone is a lot easier. Certainly something you could pick up and have fun with straight away unlike a plane :)

        • Certainly something you could pick up and have fun with straight away

As long as you can afford the replacement parts. lol

        • *you're pressing

      • I'd be interested in doing this myself, but I don't have any of the knowledge - can you email me at [email protected] so I can pick your brains about it?

  • Thanks for the share Kevin22, i just went straight out and bought one! Great discount.

  • This is still $228 on their site and stock. No need to be expired.

  • Still on sale for $228. Just purchased one in store from Broadmeadows, VIC. They only have one left in stock.

    • They seem to have put the price up to $298

    • Managed to get one yesterday for $228 and I have a 20% off voucher so got it in the end for $182.40!
