im not a business member so can't see the pricing. Do they have the Fly More Plus combo? Doesn't seem much point in the std combo over here

    • +4

      they do, $1647.89inc gst.

      Accessed with Origin Rewards.

      • does AGL do this as well? or velecity?

        • I have no idea lol

    • I actually wish the Plus combo came with one standard (249g) and two plus (>250g) batteries like the previous (Mini 3 Pro at least) plus combo had - so you had one battery marked as 249g compliant - rather than three plus batteries

Looking at images online of the batteries, it looks like the new M5P standard battery isn't prominently marked with 249g like the previous (M3P & M4P) standard battery was?

I just ordered the Plus combo for pickup ($1647.89) to upgrade from my M3P Plus combo

      • Are the batteries from the mini 4 pro much different? They look almost identical.

The mini 3 pro and mini 4 pro batteries are cross compatible.

        • Guess I'll find out soon enough - I'll see if they fit - but from the description on the batteries and the new charger (it too looks almost identical) I'm guessing probably not (M5P only)

          • +1

@Remorhaz: I saw a video and appears you can put a M5P battery into a M4P. However, I haven't seen a test the other way around.

I'm assuming they've done something like they did with the Action 4 and Action 5 batteries.

            • @BillyG687: @BillyG687 Strangely this video (https://youtu.be/-TSnLPFbubc?t=284) said you can put the M4P batteries in the M5P but NOT the other way around - i.e. can't put new batteries in older models (also said the new batteries are 6g lighter than the M4P batteries)

      • +1

Be aware that the Mini 5 Pro has no markings on it whatsoever about being < 250g. It's designed to specifications to be 249g, but specifically calls out that there's a +/- 4g tolerance. Some reviewers have weighed theirs in at over 250g out of the box.

Not a huge issue in Australia as most of the restrictions don't kick in until 2kg, but still worth noting.

        • @trankillity doesn't it have the "C0" label on the drone body? or is that only on the European version? Anyway I'm picking up mine today so will see then

          • @Remorhaz: Does it have the label?

            • @evasive: Not that I can see - so perhaps that's only on European models - tho it looks like you might be able to apply for a label via the controller?

      • Totally pointless anywhere outside America, that's the only place with a sub 250g rule.

    • +1

Check with your superfund. ART has commercial agreements with JB and TGG, yours might also.

    • this is not 249g from what i have seen this is over that DJI doesn't even say on there pack it is 249g it doesnt' even have the cert which means you have to get a certification to fly it. Or you can get in alot of legal trouble if someone wants to. the mini 4 pro is the best choose because its 249g

      • read comments below, you don't need to certify it

too much false info going around and lack of simply checking the rules in Australia

        • It’s not Australian rules am talking about i am talking about other countries if u intend to take it overseas

          • @kungfuman: I believe that the newer batch will reduce this weight to comply. Maybe another couple of months away.

It's then a matter of which country you go to. Do they simply specify it on actual weight, or like Australia, drone model certification.

            • @slipperypete: Requirement differ some are strict some
Are relax but point is if it was 249g u wouldn’t need to worry about it but because it over u have to look into it.

      • +1

        hey, well done…great price

        • +1

wow just setup my mini 5 pro it has the same features as my first gen mavic 4k :D and then some its about time the mini caught up

          • @kungfuman: are you saying that in a good way?

It has a ton of great features. The more you dig into it the more you will be impressed I think.

I reckon you did the right thing grabbing this over the 4. Just some really nice improvements.

The new Neo2 is gonna be released in the next few days. Looks good…..nowhere near the features of yours but the camera is now the same quality as my Air3….which is now a step below the camera on the Mini Pro 5!!!

I think you should be really impressed with the camera on ther Mini Pro 5, especially in low light

Let me know how it goes

            • +1

@slipperypete: its good to the point that I sold my old mavic 4k :D because it has all the features i need now on the mini. the only thing i could say is I wish they gave us a ND 16 filter not an nd 8 for me nd 16 is usually my go to filter, it would have to be a very bright day for me to use a nd 32 and very dark cloudy day for me to go a nd8. Some comparison videos show that the mini 5 pro is very close the quality of the air.

              • @kungfuman: Yeah, I heard similar complaints. On the positive side, the larger sensor means you can have higher Iso without losing quality. This means you could probably get away with a darker filter and then bump up the iOS to compensate. It does seem an odd choice tho

                • +1

@slipperypete: i went on a 2 years dji care plan for 189 which is roughly how much i saved on teh FMK :D

                  • @kungfuman: Not sure if it is worth it for only 1 missing filter but freewell have launched filters now

Unfortunately the new Neo 2 hasn't upgraded their camera enough for me so I may end of getting the Mini 5 pro too

                    • @slipperypete: any where local sell these? i don't want to import it.

                      • @kungfuman: There is this site and it actually sells the ND16 separately

Looks like a genuine site but I'm no expert

                        • +1

@slipperypete: nice yeah i only really want the ND 16 filter :D

                        • +1

@slipperypete: I just did my first flight with a 32 nd its not as bad as i thought :D its not that bad having it, my first flight almost few into some power lines lol lucky the drone can detect this stuff it almost landed in power lines too lol because of my stupid take off point lol.

                          • @kungfuman: that is amazing it can pick them up…good to know

                            • @slipperypete: yeah this mini is like the mavic sensors all over the body.

                              • @kungfuman: man i am blown away from the image quality and dynamic range of the camera on the mini 5 pro i filmed in 4k 30fps in dlog wtih pro mode settings i put in, did some colour grading in final cut and wow, i did use the dji lut with some tweaking to really get a good detailed image with good satuation and wow, its the best i have seen out of the mini series ever the details and shadows it picks up I am shocked this little drone was able to produce that kind of quality. well done to DJI they finally did it they took the mini to a standard that is actually good.

waiting for 4 go on sales

    • +1

If it's like the DJI Mini 4 Pro, it'll likely be one of those items most places exclude from their various sales for the first 6+ months :(

      • I think that's what he's saying, waiting for a sale on the 4 now that the 5s coming out

    • Mini 4 or Mavic 4

      • -3

lol if you're even asking this, just get the mini.

        • +2

not asking for myself, it wasn't clear which he meant. Mini 4 prices already discounted to a degree

      • Mini unless you have a drone license

        • Don't need a drone licence for a Mavic Pro either

          • @slipperypete: For mini drones under 250g in Australia, you generally do not need a license or registration if you are flying purely for fun. However, if you are flying for work or if the drone weighs over 250g, you must register it, and potentially get an operator accreditation and license, depending on the specific operation. The regulations are managed by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA).
            Flying for Recreation (for fun)
Drones under 250g: No license or registration is required.
Drones 250g or heavier: You must register your drone with CASA.

            • +5

@asa79: Unfortunately it is a little confusing but any drone used for commercial reasons requires registration

              From CASA
You must get a remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) operator accreditation to fly for business or as part of your job, if your drone weighs:

              250 g or less (a micro RPA)
more than 250 g but no more than 2 kg (a very small RPA)

              If you fly your drone
              for work (commercially),
              extra rules apply.
              You must register your
              drone and get a licence
              or accreditation.
If you only fly for fun,
              no registration or
              accreditation is needed.

You must register any drone used for business purposes or as part of your job, no matter how much it weighs.

In some cases, you don’t need to register your drone, such as when:

you don’t intend to fly it
you’re only flying for sport or recreation, including at CASA-approved model airfields

There's a lot of out of date info out there. Lots of exceptions and so on. In the future it may happen but the rules that apply for sub 250g also apply to those below 2KG and 25KG if on own property.

I have commercial accreditation and a remote pilot licence (RePL). My background is as an airline pilot and have been both a chief pilot and chief flying instructor. The rules are never simple but if you go to CASA and not other internet pages you will see all this info

              • +2

@slipperypete: And to fly a drone at night

"To fly a drone or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) at night, you must have a:

remotely piloted aircraft operator's certificate (ReOC)
remote pilot licence (RePL) or employ a licensed remote pilot to operate the RPA."

And in Victoria.. It is unlawful to take off and land a drone on any lands managed by Parks Victoria.. National Parks are the obvious but there at other less obvious ones like some state parks etc. Even some of the "Can you fly here" apps give incorrect information on where it is lawful to fly a drone in Victoria. There is a state park near where I live that is managed by Parks Victoria (I know the parkies who manage it) yet the "can I fly here apps" states it is ok to fly a drone there.

So it can be a minefield to ensure you fly lawfully in Victoria.

IMHO this is a great example why all done operations laws should be only done by CASA to ensure consistent laws across Australia. You regularly see people unknowingly posting great drone footage from the Victorian High country often filmed in area were under Victorian laws it is unlawful to fly a done, so the people posting the videos could face fines of many thousands of $$ if the government decided to prosecute,
Also, the Victorian government has just announced some new National parks in areas like Wombat State Forest, Mt Cole and the Pyrenees. That means a lot of these areas will move from being lawful to fly a drone to being unlawful as they move under the management of Parks Victoria .

So, you see how confusing all this can be for drone operators to ensure they are operating lawfully as to operate unlawfully can result in large fines (Many Thousands of $$) .

            • +1

@asa79: False. Drones do not need to be registered when flying for fun. There is nothing on the CASA site that says recreational drones over 250g need to be registered.

CASA: "If you only fly for fun, no registration or accreditation is needed."

              https://www.casa.gov.au/knowyourdrone/drone-rules

        • -5

The 250g thing is an American thing

            • @asa79: so do you understand the rulings now? Poorly written but it doesn't help when sites like the other one listed showing incorrectly

          • @ruprectaus: Looks like an Australian website but maybe you know better https://www.flyingglass.com.au/drone-weight-class-australia/

            • +1

@asa79: this site is out of date. Still has the 'expected' laws showing.

              250g to Under 2kg
This is the most common weight class for semi-professional and advanced recreational drones. It includes models like the DJI Air 2S, Mavic 3 Pro, and the Phantom 4 Pro

Registration: Required for both recreational and commercial use.
RePL: Not required for commercial work under the excluded category, but strongly recommended.

Either they are not updating their site or they are trying to drum up unnecessary costs as part of their business

              • +1

@slipperypete: Yeah that does seem to be the case. CASA website showing drones under 2KG can be flown recreationally without any license or registration (as long as flown in legal areas).

It seems the 250g limit for recreational flyers is only in regards to flying within 5.5KM of an airport/strip.

                • +1

@studentl0an: What I did find interesting, if you use Google and you use the AI feature, it quotes this site and it looks clearly that the above 250 gram mark indicates you need to register

Just goes to show you that AI still has a way to go if they are just quoting from one website.

          • @ruprectaus: It's a pretty common ruling but CASA can't make up its mind. The only part we follow is to do with controlled airports which states that (with conditions) only sub 250g drones can fly within 5.5 km of these airports. We have 'exceptions' to the 250 ruling…makes it confusing

    • same. Bit of luck Black Friday we might get something.

    • Got a brand new mini 4 pro never used 🤣 what deal you chasing…bought it when I had the 3 unused…thinking oh I need the better one that has better obstacle avoidance, now the 5s out I’m somehow telling myself oh if I get this one I’d use it more..so if you’re interested let’s talk gravy. Just don’t have it in a box I unboxed straight into the bag for easier acceptance 🤣

    $1597.06 inc GST

  • interesting im seeing 1556.29 inc GST for this combo

  • +1

Looks like a pretty significant camera sensor improvement on this model.

    • +2

if it's the same camera as the wide on the Air 3S, i would check that on reviews comparing to the mini 4 pro.. the Air 3S made the same sensor and lens jump, and is basically no better, even when pixel-peeping low light shots. Something tells me the lens is not transmitting as much light as claimed - everyone is so focused on sensor size.

      • +1

I had an Air 3 and the 3s is better, not just pixel peeping. A lot of mixed reviews but I have compared them with a friend's 3s. Also, seen and read quite a few reviews in the Mini Pro 4 vs 5 and all the images I have seen are much better.

Whether it would be worth changing for the slight increase that would barely be noticed (if at all) on social media then that's another argument.

I sell prints so it might make sense to me. Also, I live in a National Park and while I regularly get approval to use it for commercial reasons, having a super quiet drone like this is quite appealing for those other times!

        • +1

Yeah good points. I've found the colour accuracy in the normal 12mp bayer mode is far better than the super-res mode with the added benefit you can use the ai-denoise in lightroom, as that doesn't work on quad-bayer shots. The super-res shots also give some weird yellow/magenta/cyan confetti type artifacts in some situations.

It's always nice to have a quiet drone regardless, and my fave thing about the mini series is you can get a full charge of a 'plus' battery out of a 10ah powerbank.

Really nice seeing quick-release props on the mini for the first time. that dang screwdriver situation with the 4 is such a pain haha

          • @eggboi:

colour accuracy in the normal 12mp bayer mode is far better than the super-res mode with the added benefit you can use the ai-denoise in lightroom

I didn't realise that about LR. Is this the same with all ai programmes and NR? Do you have any articles or info on it?

            • +1

@slipperypete: I think it's only LR's system that relies on regular bayer subpixel layout, but it is also the best-performing denoise option, and it doesn't smear colours. I find it looks most natural at around 30-50% depending on the image. I would say if you need the extra res, shooting 12mp and using LR denoise, doing your usual edit, then using a separate ai upscaler as a final step would be the best method. yes the 48/50mp modes are clearly sharper, but it's not worth the hit to colour accuracy, which is especially bad in the shadows at golden hour. not sure why - the sensor seems to produce a lot more readout noise in this mode I guess.

              • @eggboi: Hey, wow you are right. Just had a play around in it.

I haven't used LR in a while due to the subscription model and I use C1Pro and Topaz for noise reduction. It is a dismal fail in LR. Tons of artefacts too.

I've been thinking about using it again mostly for Timelapse workflow but now I'm not sure. I will try some at the lower res and see how it goes.

                Thanks

                • @slipperypete: No worries! Would like to see your photography if you want to swing me a DM ✌️

  • Should I get this or wait for the 6?

  • Via Origin the pricing seems a little cheaper - looks like the various bundles (they have all three combos RC-N3, RC 2 & RC 2 Plus) - are ~8.4% off - pity (like the Good Guys Commercial site) you can't also double dip and use discounted Vouchers to pay :)

They also have the individual two battery types and the propellers available

I actually wish the Plus combo came with one standard (249g) and two plus (>250g) batteries like the previous (Mini 3 Pro at least) plus combo had - so you had one battery marked as 249g compliant - rather than three plus batteries - anyway thanks OP bought the Plus combo for pickup ($1647.89) to upgrade from my Mini 3 Pro Plus combo

    • I actually wish the Plus combo came with one standard (249g) and two plus (>250g) batteries like the previous (Mini 3 Pro at least) plus combo had

Hey. I'm thinking of just going for the lowest model. I mean, I have an RC2 controller so having the cheaper one may be good for lugging it around as you save on screen etc. Then, I buy two plus batteries and all the extras. Works out saving me money. Means if I wanna fly within 5.5km of a controlled airport (which for me will be never) then I'm covered. The combo kits aren't really saving much.

      • I did look at something like that (because I don't care about the filters, the bag or probably even the charger) - but I don't have the RC2 (only whatever came with the M3P - the original RC with the screen, but no antennas and no OC4)

So I'd have to buy RC2 ($549 RRP) and even just one plus battery ($149 RRP) - just that on top of the base non combo M5P would be more expensive than the Plus combo. Perhaps if they had a version with the M5P by itself with no controller - even then it likely only just beats the combo price (which also has more batteries, let alone the other stuff)

        • It sux how you have to buy a controller each time. However, in your case it is definitely worth it so you get the full range.

Looks like an awesome little drone. Prob the main reason I want this is because how quiet it is. I need to be discreet….or at least not be chased down by Karens and park rangers

  • Just glance through the titile and I mistakenly think this was a DJ starter pack….

Is there a fly less combo? Every freaking area is getting no fly zones and fines.

    • I fly everywhere, no issues. Where do you live?

    • Not just that, but finding an area with no magpies!

  • Just a reminder that the Pro 5 seems to weight around 253gram this time due to the massive new sensor.
I guess my Pro 3 still goes ok so no need for upgrade.

    • do you know what's the real world impact of that apart from registering the drone somewhere, ARN number? Are there any costs involved in that registration?

      • Yeah might impact the registration of the drone is all. Might require a drone license from CASA but I never had the need to have one so unsure of the costs.

    • +1

DJI website says 249g. But the small print says "Product weight may vary due to differences in batch materials and other factors. The actual weight is approximately 249.9 g ± 4 g and is subject to the actual product." Pretty strange that the weight is not consistent.

      • I've seen some pics on Reddit of people having this drone. It does bounce between 251-252grams. Defo not under 250grams however I think people said one 1 of the landing prod can be taken off so theoretically it could be below 250grams still.
