I just picked up some Finish All-in-1 dishwasher tablets, 100 for $20 at Arndale in SA. They had a few left.
At this price, these all-in-1 tablets are the best value dishwashing tablets around (except for the Glissen, which are $3 for 50 tablets at the Reject Shop - although the Glissen not quite as good as the all-in-1, they are still the cheapest tablets around).

Stock levels may vary, but there were a few left when I was there.

The all-in-1s are cheaper than the Fairy that are on sale at Coleworths this week, and I didn't notice any difference between the all-in-1 and the Fairy in my limited trials.

  • How does this compare to other recent deals on these? I haven't bought them before but I've seen lots of deals for them and I'm starting to think they are worth a shot.

Choice did a big comparison between dishwashing tablets and powders and found very little difference between performance/ingredients. They found most (if not all) of the claims made on tablet packaging would also apply to most powders.

    http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/household/kitchen…

The cost difference per wash, together with the incompatibility of tablets with fast/eco wash cycles, is compelling.

So no deal for me, I'm powders all the way now.

    • you do realise that you can buy finish tablets for under 20c per wash. and it's guaranteed, as opposed to possibly scooping more powder to make your 16c wash to 20c wash?

bargain buy finish tabs for me!

Even $.20/tablet is more expensive than the most exxy powder tested (just), but a couple of other "value" counterpoints from the article for you, then I'll leave you to either read for yourself or not:

Switching from a premium tablet to a CHOICE Best Buy powder, for example, could mean saving up to $186 per year for dishwasher detergent while still getting good performance.

Tablets also need a longer cycle time to allow the detergent to fully dissolve, so you can't use fast wash and delicate cycles to save time, energy or water.

On the other hand, powders are cheaper and further savings can be made if you dose correctly according to how dirty your dishes are, or if your machine is half-full.

        • Apples to Apples this is a decent price for the tablets, but i'm powder all the way as explained why by mattyD.

        • ah right good point - i've always just left my machine on the one heavy duty setting inc drying. ha. i should probably look at that then

20c per tab, or 19c per tab with 5% off WISH gift cards

I tried a bunch. Some like quantum have an ingredient that leaves the glassware visibly glossier.
The fairy one seems to live up to its claim to clean the dishwasher itself.

But they all wash the dishes the same, well if you stack it right, and not so well if you don't.

I'd prefer scooping powder to removing plastic wrappers.
Soluble wrappers save a few minutes work over a year for a cost of up to $100 extra. no thanks.

But at 20c/tablet, sure, why not. Only 10c more than the Coles powder.

Also maybe think to switching to a product not full of phosphates so we don't kill the planet to get clean dishes

    • Try it, but you'll find there is good reason why dishwasher powder still uses phosphates.

If you live on the coast, and your treated sewerage goes into the ocean, it is not a problem.
If you live inland, phosphates discharged into freshwater systems are bad.
