EasiYo Yogurt

Hi all,

I just got my EasiYo Yogurt packs from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/105410 , delivered by courier no less. Thanks EasiYo! Now how do you actually use them to make yogurt?

I've got the yogurt maker. It's basically a thermos type thing plus another container that has the yogurt powder mixed with water. You put the container in the thermos and fill the rest with boiling water and leave it overnight or up to 24 hours. So if you have a thermos/cooler box of some sort, I guess you should be able to achieve the same thing.

Check out the op shops. Must be heaps of these makers there.

  • Yes, before easiyo designed the thermos type thing (that I bought in BigW for about $18), you just made it in a normal thermos. If you actually like yogurt, I'd recommend getting the easiyo type thing as it's reeeeally good for you you and has much more health benefits than the commercial stuff.

I usually leave it for 9 hours. The natural which we got as the freebie is creamy, and the skim milk mix is is a more delicate taste. Eat w' fresh or preserved fruit. You can freeze it too.

Don't know why they asked what flavour I'd like, because they even printed it on the front of the package - but didn't put either one in!

peterlong1952 is on the money. We see them all the time in Op Shops for $2-$4. (I think they're ~ $20 from Woolworths/BigW.) Just be sure it's all there. You need:

    1. Main large white jug.
    2. White lid for white jug. (Some screw on, some just sit on.)
    3. Inside it there should be a large clear container with red screw on lid. (If it only has one or two small ones inside, don't buy it. Wait until you get a large one because the smaller ones won't fit the entire packet. You only use the small ones to put the yoghurt in after making it.)
    4. A thick red plastic "collar". You fill with boiling water to the top of this and the clear container from #3 sits on it.

When you run out of samples, Woolworths sells a cheaper brand.

Oh - and don't waste money buying an electric one. It's a waste of electricity, when all you need is boiling water and a $2 Easiyo maker from an Op Shop.

    • Wife spotted the electric yogurt maker in Aldi. Comes with 6 small 200ml containers and maker. Luckily she didn't buy it, as you say the electricity used (even though minimal) is a waste.

there is a yoghurt maker + 3 packs of hansells yogurt mix for $9.99 from 28 aug at coles

    • I was in Coles yesterday and it's already at that price @ half price special. If that includes 3 packs of yoghurt mix, that's almost free for the yoghurt maker.

  • We always have trouble with strawberry. It seems to go off quicker. Has anyone else noticed this?

Hansell powder… That's the cheaper brand I mentioned above. It was something like half the price of EasiYo when it first appeared on the shelf. After they kicked EasiYo out of their stores, up the price went.

  • Yes can confirm it's already that price at Coles Belmont, I bought the last one, and it contains 3 packets of yoghurt.

I'm hoping I get to make the 3, before it ends up in the garage sale.

  • Is it worth purchasing the maker (on sale at Coles) if they're being discontinued? Would that mean they're discontinuing the mixes as well?

    • Sorry, misunderstanding - Coles discontinued the EasiYo brand of yoghurt maker and yoghurt powder. They kicked them out and are now selling their own versions of both. I saw their brand of yoghurt maker in stores for the first time a couple of days ago. I believe the current sale is an introductory price.

Edit: The Coles/Hansell powder has actually gone up in price (where I live anyway), now that EasiYo has cleared the shelves.

      • ahhh, sweet, thanks for that…

I have used other brands of yog mix in my easyo 'flask'. They all work the same. And, as earlier in the thread mentions, you can make yr own as per the traditional method of using a bit of an existing mix to kick it off.

I usually buy the mix in Big W and go through 3 a week of the Skinny type. Delish. This morning is a berry, LSA and yog smoothy.

Don't fuss too much, just use whatever is available.

  • Never got mine

  • Its only $10 for Hansells Yogurt maker currently on special at Coles, and includes 3 packs of Yogurt, normal price is $20

    • That's $3.33 per pack. It costs $3.46 and $4.22 each to by them separate. The trouble is, they don't stock any flavours any more. All plain or vanilla.

      • They stoll sell flavours, and the ones included with the yogurt maker have at least one flavoured yogurt.

The Hansells range seems to have increased after Easiyo was removed a few months back.

        • Yeah, I realised that yesterday when I went to a different Coles. The Coles I go to most often has only had plain or vanilla flavours since Easiyo was kicked out!?

The Hansells range seems to have increased after Easiyo was removed a few months back.

It's certainly increased in price. ;-p…

    • I had a quick look at the Hansell unit yesterday. The clear container you put the yoghurt in seems to have folding locking clips. I think they'll probably break off over time. People may as well still get one while this deal is on, because the powder is cheaper anyway - and you get the maker for free. But when it goes up again in price (or breaks), I'd be looking for an Easiyo in an op shop. (I saw another one a few days ago for $2.)

      Just make sure it has:

      1. The white outside container.
      2. A white lid on top. (Early lids just sit on. Later ones screw/lock on.)
      3. A thick red plastic ring that sits inside #1.
      4. A clear plastic ONE LITRE cannister that holds the yoghurt, and sits inside #1, on top of #2.
      5. A red screw-on lid for #4.

      Note:

The reason I typed ONE LITRE in caps at point #4 is, sometimes you see the Easiyo units in op shops with only one or two smaller clear containers - and the 1L container is missing. The smaller ones are about the size of the lid from a can of fly spray, and they're used to put yoghurt in the fridge/freezer in smaller amounts AFTER you make it in the 1L. So if the clear 1L container isn't there - don't buy it - and wait for another one to turn up with the 1L.
