Great video card for non gaming, office use or media playback.

Not every computer has to be evaluated in the context of gaming.

This would also be a killer (or overkill) media or HTPC and central server depending on the noise level.

      • +2

Actually it's also a bad video card for that. The i7 has HD4000 onboard. There's absolutely no need for a dedicated GPU for office use or media playback. Having dedicated for those purposes is just a waste of power.

        • Yes i agree about the video card in this case.

I have a GT 610 silent in my HTPC and it is great.

        • Yup, have Intel 4000 onboard for my laptop, will run ANY media without issue (up to 1080p/10b).

The discrete gfx card in this deal is redundant.

    Optical Drive Tray-in Blu-ray Combo ?
    and no HDMI out?

if i dont need to claim the cashback myself, that will earn you a customer…

    • +2

The rep is a rep of a cashback place, not of the store. So no, he'd be cutting himself out of the deal.

    • +1

+1 to that … i hate cashback deals … never yet purchased one and probably never will

  • Impressed that its 1x8gb and not something like 4x2gb to save costs. (correct me if I'm wrong).

    • It doesn't say whether it's 1 x 8GB or 2 x 4GB.

      • 2 x 4Gb would have a performance edge too…

barely matters with 4 slots (I assume it has 4)

        • four slots, but 2x4GB on board

  • Worth mentioning that Mwave is currently the cheapest vendor for this pc on staticice.

  • Does anyone have any discount codes usable at Mwave for say $20 off orders or free shipping??

  • I don't really know much about PC, but is it worth getting this PC and replace it with a better Graphic Card? For gaming?

    • It's not a bad idea, but it's a lot of faffing about to save a small amount of money in the end. I'd prefer to get a better system built for a bit more.

    • Bit risky, usually branded pc's like this have a small power supply that's enough to cover what's inside and not much more. Replacing the low-end gc with a better one may require a new psu as well.

      • this one has the best i7 you can get so i assume it has an ok psu

i wouldnt spend more than say a gt650/660 on this? should be fine

      • You also can't be sure the case/internals are big enough to put in a larger graphics card.

Massive rip off, Asus is one of the massive OEM's so a copy of Windows is basically free (or $20), PSU+case is a cheapo piece of crap worth $20. GPU is $40 if that. That leaves over $700 for the rest? Rip off. Don't forget the mobo is built to order and won't have good quality or masses of expansion features.

    • +1

It's not that terrible. HDD is ~$100, Windows is ~$100, CPU is ~$340, RAM is ~$80. That leaves ~$160 for PSU + Case + motherboard + build fee. I agree that a custom build will generally be more appropriate and get you better parts, but this is hardly a "massive rip off".

      • -1

Windows isn't that much. Huge OEMs get custom pricing and discounts for parts. Ripoff.

        • +1

Does not matter what they can get it for.

All that matters is what WE can get it for.

        • Firstly, yes, Windows is that much (look up Windows 8 OEM 64 bit and you'll struggle to find it under $100.

Secondly, the margins these stores are working off are extremely tight (often single digit percent).

Thirdly, if you can find the parts significantly cheaper elsewhere, I'd certainly be interested.

    • ASUS warranty a lot better than some DIY computer store…

  • 6 x USB 2.0 in the back and 2 x USB 2.0 in the front, appears to be not even one USB 3.0 port!
