Saw these lightbulbs on sale on the weekend at my local Woolies. Were still on sale today but they only had the 9.5W screw types left (I think I bought out the cap style ones !!)

    which store please?

  • Good price - these are about 19 clams at my woolies if I recall correctly.

EDIT: Just checked the picture, down from 20 bucks. Hopefully they go down elsewhere too.

  • These were at the Torquay Woolies store

Very good price. I didn't know that Woolies sell the LED type.

  • No discount@ prahran store :(

  • this is cheap, i am looking daylight one.

  • The 9.5W Philips bulbs are BRIGHT! I bought one a month ago for $19.98 regular price from Bunnings, and it is so bright that I found I couldn't use it in a bedroom. It now lights up my stairwell. The box on mine says it is a 10W bulb, I assume this is a slightly improved version that only consumes 9.5W.

    • +1

      I must try them.

I generally use Philips Tornados, but they take 10 seconds or so to reach maximum brightness. Do you know how yours compare to these?

      http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_product_globe-spiral-cfl…

      • The LED appears to go instantly to full brightness. No detectable warm-up period.

      • +1

Philips Tornados are CFL (compact fluorescent) and do take a short while to come to full brightness.
The ones in this post are LED and are instant ON and OFF.

      • CFL is not the same as LED. CFL has the warm-up time. LED doesn't.

  • We used a 1w Philips as a nightlight… Rated to 20,000 hours but started to flick on and off after 10 months or about 3000 hours. Not been able to find a replacement locally, local Bunnings even told me they never made 1w, despite my having one in my hand at the time…

Disappointingly short life.. But probably just bad luck.

    • Probably faulty, can you ask for a refund?

      • Rating <> Guarantee?

        • If I had kept the guarantee papers then perhaps yes… but I did not. Never thought to keep it for such an item.

    • It might have been a grey import. I don't think a 1W LED bulb was distributed by Philips Australia.

  • Nice! Straight down to my local Woolies to pick up a few if they're on sale. :)

  • No discount at my local in WA. Staff said it could be that the specific store no longer stocks them…

Nice find, OP, let's hope we all get those prices eventually (the way technology goes it might only be a couple of years).

how many ozbargainers does it take to replace a lightbulb?

    • +15

      10.

1 to ask if it comes with free damage to the box (ala CPL)
1 to accuse woollies staff members of hoarding clearance stock
      1 to call someone 'Broden'
1 to complain that it didn't come with fitting instructions
2 to point out that this is a bargain website and how stupid are you to think it comes with free installation
3 to go to officeworks for a pricematch
…and 1 to get his mum to do it.

      • I'm surprised JV doesn't get a mention in the Top 10 list

      • you missed the one that already bought it after seeing a sale but couldnt be bothered to post it

        • +1

There's also the 'I bought it last week at full price and it's on sale now, can I return it for a refund and buy it again at the lower price?' OzBargainer.

  • I purchased 2 of the 9.5W ones from Safeway Scoresby store last weekend for $11.95 on clearance sale, they where also on sale just up the road from Scoresby at Safeway Wheelers Hill for $16.95! Seems different stores have very different pricing! The 9.5W ones i got are very bright, i tested how many watts they use with a power meter and it measured 10.5W

  • Same price with no brand ones from ebay!

At my local store in southern Adelaide they're still trying to flog off these old Philips models for $16, just $4 off the original price. A new model that's 30% more efficient costs $20 at Bunnings so they'll have to do a whole lot better than that. At $4 I'd buy the whole shelf.

  • non-dimmable. Bummer.

  • +3

    Anyone spot them in sydney?

  • +1

You can probably buy eddison screw to bayonet adapters, if necessary.

  • I bought the same from Masters for $7.50 each for the 6W ones when they had 2 for one recently. I have been happy with about 10 of them installed. Keep in mind only equivalent to 40W though. $4 is a great price if you can get them.

  • Good deal, but this is only for the Edison / Screw type bulbs is that correct?
    I need the bayonet fitting…

    • +1

get an adapter at dx for ~$2

  • $16 at The Glen woolies.

  • +1

Full price at MacArthur centre Brisbane

    • Thanks for doing the leg work and making the effort to post the results. Was about to wander down that way …

  • So the question is - has anyone besides the OP managed to get these?

  • +1

    Full price at Gordon NSW.

  • +1

    Full Price Wollie Creek, NSW
Looks like it's not available in Sydney :-P

  • So the Woolies/SafeWay barcode/POS system can be modified store by store?

    New Philips model:
    http://www.ledbenchmark.com/display.php?id=185&name=Philips+…

    Old model:
    http://www.ledbenchmark.com/display.php?id=109&name=Philips+…

Note the difference in efficiency (lumens per watt). Over 15,000 hours it may be cheaper to get the new model when electricity costs are factored in…

    • I'm not sure there are any real improvements on the product here, just an adjustment. The newer models have a higher colour temperature than the previous one, ie whiter/cooler light. Whiter lights are more efficient, otherwise it appears to be the same.

The older model claims to use .5W less so you would be saving that much. I doubt these will last long enough for people to break even if buying at their normal prices and they already have CFL installed.

    • If the difference is 0.5W, it would take 15,240 hours to make up the difference (taking into accounts a $0.21/kWh). If they last 'up to' 15,000 hours, it's still better to go with this model if you can find it for the price OP did!

  • The 6W were up for $19.98 at Deception Bay but scanned as $8. They had the other wattages too but I didn't check them.

  • only 4 off at SA

  • Woolworths in Midland, Perth WA = Sticker still says $19.99 but scans at $14.99.

  • +1

$4 off from Woolworths Town Hall Sydney but not $4 sale price.
spoke to one of the woolies rep there and he said 'Reduced for Quick Sale' is at Manager's discretion so different store will have different 'Reduced for Quick Sale' items.
On summary: this offer does not apply for Woolworths Town Hall Sydney CBD.

  • Good price but not sure on their use. The CFLs do a fine job, and are just as energy efficient and cost about the same (regular price).

If they were MR16 or GU10 that would be an amazing price.

    • That's part of the problem with these old model Philips LEDs. They consume as much power per lumen as a CFL and the cost is the same. LEDs do have the key advantage of toughness, no mercury content, and instant switch on.

Current good products achieve 90lm/w (real, not manufacturer's claims) with the next generation of products promising well over 100lm/w.

    • At $3 or $4 ea I'd replace a multiple bulb fixture with these 6W LEDs.

  • +2

I done a big research project on LED light bulbs..

Did you know: regular light bulbs use and emit up to 80% heat, and only 20% light… while LED light bulbs are the reverse. They are able to emit 80% light and only waste 20% heat!

    That's some major difference there…

  • Slightly dropped to 'bout $15.0 Sylvania NSW and supposing some 99% other 'WOWs'.

Looks Ebay might collect the prize being 70%/ $6 ea fr CN typical/irrespective.

  • Moorabbin Vic have them for $12

    • dropped them to $8

Bought two, not really worth it. Too dim for my liking

  • how come the 18W CFL bulb I have isn't so bright??? somebody claims 9W is so bright that they can't use in bathroom.

    • You're talking CFLs, these are LEDs! But even still, an 18W CFL should roughly be equivalent of about a 60-70W incandescent or a 9W LED! But the real measure should now be in Lumens (the perceived brightness)!
