  • these are cheap if you just want dumbbells http://www.kmart.com.au/product/20kg-weight-set/122678

  • If you really are a starter you should get the $50-$60 50kg set from Big-W (the sale pops up once in a while). Even though its made of concrete, you will easily have outgrown the weights by the time you need to throw them out. I bought them 6 months ago and they are still in great condition. But it didn't take long before the weights became too light - although you can still use them for a fair few exercises such as dumbbell/barbell curls.

I really can't see why you would want to buy expensive 50kg weights unless you are using them to add to your home gym. You won't really get your money's worth because you will outgrow them fairly quickly. I'd only take them if you can't get to a gym.

    • Can't you buy more to fit this bar?

      • Yep, I'd say 100kg would keep you busy for well over a year. Even 50kg can last you a long time depending on the exercises you do. But if you're looking to deadlift/bench/squat, I wouldn't recommend it.

        • i'm not sure a beginner could be deadlifting or benching 100 kg in a year…

        • I said that 50kg is not that much for starters as you will soon outlift it, so you can get another 50kg if you are looking to use these weights long-term.

Bar and weights are most likely sitting in a corner gathering dust if you're still lifting 50kg 1 year later…

This is pretty deceiving… only 40kg of plates, the other 10kg comes from the weight of the bars and spinlock

  • check out the postage……FM no way would i consider paying that much for postage

I might buy this… but I think I will only be lifting the 1.25kg irons though or just the bar sigh… might need the female assistant there to carry the set to my car… >< lol

I bought this at Rebel two months ago for 99.95 so no Deal for me.

    • Standard price for weights since 1996 has been about $2/kg. Anything more is a premium

I only use weights with triple baked enamel these days.

While there's a certain unrefined, raw appeal about single baked enamel on a weight, there's nothing like satisfaction that comes from knowing that your weight endured three bakings, each less necessary than the last, before coming into your possession.

    • Baked, not fried, shaken, not stirred?

  • Got given this set as a gift probably 2 years ago. Horribly really, the bar started to get rust shortly after I got it, and the screws that hold the plates on never stay tight.

Ended up giving mine away, they were just terrible.

Should've just baked the whole thing one more time.

I'm a long-time happy customer of Little Bloke Fitness in Coburg: http://www.littleblokefitness.com.au/products-page/weight-pl…

Less than $3/kg for rubber-coated Olympic plates that you'll never outgrow.

  • I've got a set of these that I don't use any more…lol any one want to buy them :)??

    • ah the old weight fad. Mine are in a friends shed from 4 years ago. Used once

      • Yeah, i ended up just joining the gym after seeing i wasn't motivated enough in the garage!

  • Theres a few places that sell 50kg sets for less than $150 - Not really a bargain

  • I bought Celsius branded weights and bar a year or so ago when I had gift cards to use and found the alleged 1 inch hole in the centre were not consistent hence most of the plates, 80% or so, did not fit the likes of the Magnum branded barbell, bought from Sportsmart, that I already owned. The quality of the barbell is very ordinary, it is much lighter than standard bars and the spinlocks often move when there is more than 50kg on the bar. I honestly wouldn't recommend this brand to anyone, especially not beginners!

  • 50KG? I will pass. Need at least 200ish.
