Global "Synergy" 7 Piece Knife Block Instore at DJs for $279.30

170

Was looking for a semi decent knife set, and found this deal in David Jones (Perth CBD store). They are having a 30% sale on their kitchenware, and this set retails at $399. Which brings the price down to $279.30.

Walked over to myer and found them doing a similar sale, but their retail price was $499. Did a quick search on Petersofkensington and also on everten and found both to be selling this set at $399, so walked back to DJs and sealed the deal.

Cant find the product on their online store, and there were about ten boxes left at the perth CDB store.

Can upload receipt if people want.

And there's no need to be a jerk either but that didn't stop you. No idea how you managed to get "condescending snob" from the OP.

Expensive knives may not make someone a better cook, but better knives can certainly help you get better at it.

Simply by having access to better knives in the kitchen encouraged me to become more involved in the kitchen more often.

Not really… there is some cheapo Thai knife that all the chefs were cracking a fat about.
Had some kind of animal name like "Possum" or "Koala" brand. Anyway is cheap as anything but is weighted and cuts beautifully.
I guess the thing is really any knife that you enjoy using will make you cook better/more. That can be from pure $ value if you roll that way, could be from the beauty of the perfect edge (Jap knives etc) could just be a joy to use.

        EDIT:
Its the Kiwi knife (from Thailand) ("Mai pen rai, eh bro? Suck knife Bro!)

        • so this kiwi knife you mentioned would fall in the categoy of "better" like I suggested?

        • Sure!

        • Read the post. Got me interested at least!

Certainly worth a punt at that price.

        • Oh I love my Kiwi knives! Haven't tried any of the big knives, just have a couple fruit and veg ones. I don't know what "decent" knives are, but I do wish my other knives were as nice to use as these. These are pretty popular all over SE Asia, not just Thailand.

Couldn't be better than my $7.99 aldi spec Crofton edge! It made me a better cook than my $2 go-lo spec ever did :P

  • Do anyone know if Myer will price match with DJs? as I have a few Myer gift card would like to use them all and don't want to step in Myer anymore after that.

    • yep. myer price matches any advertised price… did mine with a macbook last week and paid some of it off with my CBA rewards points…

      • Only if it doesn't go below their cost price (which they won't disclose).

Never got a successful match out of them so far because of that get-out.

Should be fine with this price. Myer have this price every year in post Christmas sales, and in usually in June sales too.

Also, I bought these knives on sale for this price 5 years ago, same retail price applied then, and the same special price ($279) - so don't wait for a better deal, it honestly won't happen :)

        • same here but a present for brother that merged to general use

  • OH God.. Time to spend some $$$$!! I have been waiting for this!

  • A certain amount of technology goes into making knives, especially good quality ones. Good tools make the job easier, its the same for any profession. Cooking is the same. I prefer using japanese knives as the blade angles are sharper, which gives a nicer cut. Global knife designs also make them very easy to clean thoroughly.

  • Would OfficeWorks price match this? :)

    • No. But you may try KitchenWorks

  • Isn't Synergy their old line? I thought IKASU was their new flagship? I'm not sure… :/

  • I'll vote this up for the price…

But seriously.. seven knives? Global knives are nice (although a bastard to sharpen well) but the whole chef's knife thing is BS. Most of the chefs I ever worked with had a motley collection of battered, tatty no-name knives. Nobody cooking at home needs seven knives. A full size chef's knife, a paring knife, maybe a shorter chef's knife and a bread knife is more than enough for anyone.

    • Six knives, 7 piece set inc the holder.

  • I've picked up a 6 piece Wusthof Classic for that price previously (Myers). Depends on your preference though.

  • Just bought the Global Millenium set (different to Synergy but equivalent in retail price) for $395 from Kitchenware Direct last month :-(

I think $279.30 is a great deal for these knives. They really are nice to prep food with at home. Though I do tend to stick with using only 4 of the included 6 knives, admittedly.

I don't think you'd be able to get them cheaper internationally (or if you actually ship them into Australia? Anybody know??)

  • Hmm, my David Jones in Melbourne CBD said the discount does not apply to knives, only cutlery. Confirmed at Chadstone store.

Myer also has 30% off BUT their starting price is $599 so no go.

OP, can you upload the receipt as you offered?

Beginning to think this was a mistake and one-off. Anyone actually been able to take up this offer?

    • Purchased at DJs Tuggerah - NSW - 2259. Onsale for $279.30.
