I've been looking for a battery bacpac ever since getting the HD Hero 3 Black edition months and months ago as it has roughly half the battery life of my Hero HD. Most prices seemed to be $50+ even from overseas eBay sellers and Amazon, once shipping was figured in.

Note that this backpac is the older style one that takes the same batteries as the Hero 1 and Hero 2, which is IMO better than the newer one as the battery is slimmer. I also have a few of the older batteries which makes that decision even easier.

From a local eBay seller with a very high rating is a big plus too.

I snapped one up without hesitation and would recommend all Hero 3 Black owners to get one (double that poor <1 hour battery life).

    Does the Hero 2 battery that comes with this work with either the HeroHD or the Hero3?

      It will work inside the Hero 1 and Hero 2 with or without a bacpac, and will work with the Hero 3 with this bacpac.

      I thought I made it clear in the description but I can see how some people who are very new with GoPro cameras (or don't own one) can be a little mixed up by the wording.

        In comparison with the original gopro bacpac it comes with a bacpac housing for $50.

          since i got a few spare Hero2 batteries, i was tossing up whether to get more Hero3 batteries or not.

          No problems. Yeah it's a pretty awesome deal, especially for us with spare batteries for Hero 1 + 2 that we can now use with the Hero 3.

          I never bought a spare battery for my Hero 3 because of this, I knew this older backpac would be much better both for price and can use the 3 spare older style batteries for the Hero 3. Guess I'm a typical ozbargainer for waiting the 3+ months for a deal like this to come up lol.

          Maybe +1 the deal if you liked it?

        I don't own a Hero 3 to compare it with yet… the main reason is the low reported battery life.

        Good link. I didn't know that the new bacpac didn't have a removable battery. That really cements the older style as being much better than the newer one in my book.

    Mine came this morning. Works great with the original HD Hero and the HD Hero 3 Black.

    It also came with an extra 'elbow' joint so that when it's mounted there is still the full range of movement, which was nice as it wasn't advertised.
