Dune 4WD 24Ah LiFePO4 DC Power Pack, 96W DC Input, USB-C PD/DC5521/Dual 12V $169 (Member's Price) in-Store Only @ Anaconda

160

on clearance. combine with $30 off $150 in-Store only (Members only) to make it $169.
it's not on the list of exclusions.

I am happy with the Kings 12Ah I have had for a long time now.
compared to the Kings 24Ah (mostly the same product) the Dune charges twice as fast, at 80W USB-C in and 96W DC5521 in, so it should charge in just over 3 hours. the Kings 24Ah which has been as cheap as $149 + delivery is stuck at the same charging speed as the 12Ah version (41W), so it takes forever to charge 24Ah (300Wh) around 7~8 hours.

also looks like Dune's has DC5521 output as well as input (Kings 24Ah DC5521 is input only). Dune also has wireless charger on the top and a little screen that shows charge information instead of the 4 lights on Kings.

  • $649 original price…

  • What might one use this for besides camping?

    • Summer is coming, good for the beach to power a small fridge to keep your drinks cool.

      • +6

Ice block in a bag does the same thing lol

      • +4

Who is carrying fridges to the beach?

I use a powerbank to power the autotracking on my telescope, I'm actually after some more power, currently using a smaller celestron power bank I've had for years but I don't have enough power outputs so I need to use multiple power banks to keep everything going.

It looks good but no stock near me.

      Kings one is $149 too.
      https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/24ah-lithium-portable-power…

      For the Kings one:
Charging as noted in the post could take a while depending on the charging method.
DC lnput 12-24V/2A max = 48W max so best case with 24V charging would be around 6.5 hours
If you charge by USB-C its slightly worse, best case is 20V/2.25A or nearly 7 hours.

The 36Ah one is considerably better, going up to 100W for charging, over double the charging rate and 50% more capacity than the 24Ah (307Wh vs 460Wh). You also get an Anderson output on the 36Ah which does 12V/25Ah. I think I'll hold off and see if the 36Ah goes on sale.

Just bought the Kings 36Ah for $249 a week or so ago (no bundle, just the unit). I have watched the price for a year and haven't seen it under $249 so bit the bullet.

      • $279.95 if you get the bundle with car charger

        https://www.4wdsupacentre.com.au/36ah-lithium-portable-power…

      • DC lnput 12-24V/2A max = 48W max so best case with 24V charging would be around 6.5 hours

fyi I measured my 12Ah via USB-C and it charges at 40~41W with a 1m cable and 65W PD charger. Kings claims 45W but it's never the claimed ime because of loss in cable and heat depending on device. not sure about DC5221 input.

so I would add 0.5~1 hour to my estimate.

The 36Ah one is considerably better, going up to 100W for charging,

yeah you don't get 100W charging for Kings until you buy the 36Ah model. but tbh because of extra capacity I think it needs to charge even faster. 140W USB PD/140W DC solar input would be nice.
I would rather get the 80W~96W charging 24Ah Dune 4WD for convenience. less capacity but if you don't need 36Ah the 24Ah can handle more cycles just fine because LifePO4. almost $100 less up front as well.

Could you jump-start your 'thopter with this before a sandworm comes?

  • My local store's manager took great offence to this deal with the voucher and really didn't want to proceed with the sale for some reason.

    • He prob bought one when they came out at full price with staff discount and paid 2x more than this and is butthurt.

    • no /s?

but you bought it right? I mean you just follow instructions here and it should apply $30 off on the system and store manager should not be able to do anything about it.

      IN STORE PROCESSING INSTRUCTIONS

      1. At the counter scan your Adventure Club Card
        2.Scan the QR code
      2. Discount will be applied automatically at the end of the transaction after the min spend of $150 is reached

afaik the system decides the price. butthurt store manager usually doesn't care it's up to the system.

      • Yeah it was after everything was scanned she had a whinge about the price and how the stickers on display don't say that. I had to show her the website to prove that the $199 price before $30 off is the national price. A karen basicllly.

        • and how the stickers on display don't say that.

huh? she was arguing the shelf prices didn't show extra $30 off? of course it doesn't that's why they are called shelf prices. 😂
plenty times I went to grocery shopping after seeing a low sale price online, then in store the shelf prices are all normal. 9/10 when I scan it it's the reduced price.

system wins every time. just scan membership, QR code, and the total should show $169 and then you just pay. they must have made it way more dramatic then it needed to be. 😌

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Nah her shelf price was $649 that scanned at $399 and brought down to $199 with the membership.

            • @Clear:

Nah her shelf price was $649 that scanned at $399

ok surprising. as comment said towards the top, I have never seen it higher than $399. I wasn't checking in store though.

that makes more sense then, so she thought member price was the real discount, and didn't know you had another discount in your pocket. 🤭

but these days they make customers do all the scanning. so you should have just been like beep beep yup $169 total.

              • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: Too bad I didn't have one of the $5 instore vouchers to redeem from C&C. That would have set her off even more.

                • @Clear: well the good thing is you got it.

deal expired now. because coupon expired. you managed to get through the window and also find it in stock.

                  • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: I'm lucky it had the ridiculous price tag because there were nearly a dozen on the shelf.

                    • @Clear: just to let you know if it's the same as the Kings ones. because I completely forgot about this feature until months later.

it's got LED's on the back, both white and yellow ones.

press and hold from off to turn on white LED, then you can press once quickly after turning on to cycle the brightness. low or high.
double tap from off to turn on yellow warm LED. it's only got one brightness.

I tried to turn on both at the same time that didn't seem to work, it turns off the other colour.

because of the massive battery and efficient LED, it will last forever. could be handy.

                • @Clear: Tried to stack both the $30 QR code and the $5 click and collect voucher together on Monday and it didn't work. It cancelled the $30 discount out automatically, only one discount allowed.
Ended up paying the $169, when I was hoping to get it for $164.

                  • @Spending2Much:

it cancelled the $30 discount out automatically, only one discount allowed.

see this is what I mean by system decides. if that's what you get there is no chance of getting both.

                • @Clear: uh so I did C&C at anaconda. ordered when it said bonus $5 in-store voucher included on the items page (it still does).
I was in a rush so I just assumed it would be on the receipt or inside the package when I got home.

there was nothing in there?? and it's not on my ADventure club account either.

is this something you have to ask for?

edit: ok found another comment saying at some stores you have to ask. oh well their loss I guess. was considering going back for something with the $5, but it's not exactly cheap (over $50) so I won't bother. will find it somewhere else, probably for cheaper too.

  • Only charges 60W on usb-c. On the box and pack it says 20v at 3ah for usb-c input, while it says 'USB-C 80W Max' on the website. Should do more on DC.

    • In the manual it says USB-C 80W is off solar. But not PD charging.

      • In the manual it says USB-C 80W is off solar.

it shouldn't matter solar or USB charger, USB-C is USB-C. it only sends power if it handshakes PD power level.

    • kind of misleading.
probably handshakes 65W PD then. as my Kings handshakes 45W and charges at 41W.

  • The new version
    https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/equipment/trav…
Comes with an Anderson to Dc5521 plus a bag according to the webpage, but the box I had opened with the store staff didn't have a bag in it.
Main difference apart from colour was the 2 year warranty vs the one year warranty on this model.
The new version also doesn't come with the adaptors that are included in this model.

    • • DC5521 to DC5521 Cable
      • DC5521 Plug Converter Set

these included on the old deal model probably very useful if you want to charge a laptop.
other than that I keep hearing good things about Anderson. Australian designed plug apparently.

I thought the new model added those buttons, and adjustable DC voltage, but looks like old one does that too.

charging speed max also the same 24V 4A. one thing I noticed only the new one has though is pass through charging.

      • Beige model (old version) has adjustable voltage, 12.0v,16.5v, 20v, 24v
Beige model also has the two orange lights, that's aren't shown on the web page, but are shown on the newer version web page (orange lights are non flashing)
I'm unsure how to accurately check for 'pass through' charging
I've had the unit charging, via USB C 240v wall adaptor and also charged my phone with the wireless pad and via a USB A port at same time.
Though, I presumed, that charging the phone was done with the 24Ah battery, and that was the unit was charged also at the same time, though how to check for 'pass through charging '

        • pass through charging works like this with power banks.

charger plugged, charging circuit charges battery. then if you plug something into the power bank while charging, the charging circuit uses the input power to output to whatever is plugged into the power bank output. and the circuit charges the battery at a slower speed.

e.g. if 65W in from USB-C, and while charging you plug a PD 20W phone to charge from powerbank, the battery inside power bank is then charging at 65W-20W = 45W.

this is how it works because technically a battery cannot be charged, and discharged at the same time. because of the chemical process.

      • Instruction manual says it's capable of 'pass through' charging
        https://www.anacondastores.com/medias/DUNE-4WD-24Ah-LITHIUM-…

        Section 4, Maintenance and Care

        • ok so same for the old one then.

for some reason marketing under Features the old doesn't have Pass through listed, and the new one does. probably just change in marketing to upsell the new one.
