  • Have been waiting for this

  • What if I'm a few months in to a 1 year Membership currently? Will I get 1 year + 90 days added to the end of my current Membership?

    • I'm 95% sure that's how it works

      • +1

        100% sure, subscriptions stack
so when they have these deals good time to sub / re-sub

        • Worked for me. Now just wondering if I buy another year do i get another 3 months

        • Yes, the bonus also stacks.

  • I have never had a PS+ account. Can we buy, but not activate until we get our PS4's on Nov 29, or does activation start from purchase?

    • +2

to get the extra 90 days you need to buy before 20 sept.
but no if you buy your psn+ sub via the psn store it starts instantly, if you buy one of the prepaid cards from jbhifi or ebgames it will be when you activate it (again tho you wont get the extra 90 days unless you activate before 20 sept)

      • ah k. thanks!

    • +2

I believe it starts as soon as purchased. There is probably a reason why they are giving 3 months free, 3 months before the PS4's launch ;)

      • Well that just means, 3 months worth of game hogging on the SEN browser.

  • Is the Ass Creed 3 for US or EU?

    • i got the email for my AU PSN+ but not yet for my US account, so i would assume its for EU

  • Time to trade AC3. Haven't even played the bastard!

    • +1

Not missing much. I put it down about 8 hours in, bored witless. It over-reaches and tries to incorporate different elements and styles of gameplay resulting in a mishmash that doesn't really nail a single thing it sets out to achieve.
      Most overrated big-budget series ever.
      Yeah, I said it.

      • +1

LOL you are right on the money…I powered through the end and promptly traded it vowing to never touch that series again. WORST….ENDING….EVAARRRR

        • +1

I've never played 3 but tbh going by BroHo and Revelations I have to agree. BroHo was good but was starting to get too complicated and now I'm onto Rev's and I feel it is a jumbled up mess. I loved Ass Creed 2, it was perfect, also enjoy the Vita version, it feels like AC2, it doesn't have all of the extra crap stuck on.

  • how much for 1 year sub usually? what do you get except "free" games and those useless trailers? stabler connection for online games?

    • Usually $70. No difference to online games connections.

      Summary:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/102814

      • Friend told me that PS4 will require PSN+ subscription to play online. Is this correct?

        • yes, that is correct.

        • I was actually tempted to neg you, killing the messenger and all.

        • +1

For me this killed the chances of me getting a PS4. While its no different to Xbox, I have a capable PC rig which is free to play online with.

I'm a very casual gamer though - maybe a couple of sessions a month, so for me it doesn't make sense to pay $70 for online MP (which is the main reason I'd be buying it) when I can get it for free on PC.

          My 2c.

        • For me it's about the Sony exclusives that we will never see on Steam. Most PS3/Vita owners already have Plus so that really softens the blow for many people that Sony have started charging for online multiplayer.

        • +1

I think exclusives are even less of a reason to go with consoles these days. Most of the big blockbuster hit games will be multi-platform. BF4, COD, Elder Scrolls Online, EA sport games etc..

Can't comment on PS+ currently, but I and the majority of people I have on my friends list don't have PS+. Currently, you have to play the PS pretty frequently to make PS+ worthwhile (cashing in on the free rental games etc), whereas requiring PS+ to play online multiplayer cuts into the core gameplay functionality imo - I mean how many games do you buy purely for single player these days?

PC games are also inevitably cheaper - $30 for the AAA releases a week or 2 after is not uncommon. Then there are the steam sales. Vs. PS4 - $60+ every time.

Then there's the game mods which will never come to console - Eg Skyrim mods are absolutely mind blowing and have extended the life of the game so much!

My 2c - this has nothing to do with PC elitism/graphics/any of that BS.

Just the practicalities for me of paying $70/year for just wanting the casual MP ability for games like BF4 etc.

        • Uncharted, Infamous, God Of War, Gran Turismo, LBP, KillZone etc, I'm really into all of these franchises and they won't be heading to Steam so as much as I agree with your points above I won't regret buying into the PS4 and it's PS Plus.

Oh and I'm looking on my Vita atm and I have 16 friends online at the moment, 14 have PS Plus.

        • I actually think PS+ is MORE suited to the casual gamer. It gives you a selection of games each month and you don't have to go anywhere looking for what games are out, what's popular etc. 'Proper' gamers know whats out and what they want.

I wish more games were single player only, some of them get multiplayer taped to the side like an after thought, most of the time it's done badly. For example; Tomb Raider. Army of TWO: 1 & 2, Rage & Resident Evil 5/6 are great for coop but for some reason competitive multiplayer had to be made too, and it was pretty bad :(

Probably 80% of my PS friends are PS+ subscribers, it's great because you see the Plus icon and you know they have the same games as you do.

        • whats your psn beakeroo. mines trumpedup :p

        • +1

          Mine is beakeroo lol

        • +1

And pretty much each of those games has been available for free on ps+ as well.
I've had it for years now and it's fantastic for the less hard core gamer (starting a family is cutting into gaming time so I'm a casual now)
I get a huge selection of varied high quality titles that I now only buy must haves. Any time I want something new I just look through the list of untouched gems to find something for my mood.

We also just got a vita and had been 'buying' them as they came so got a massive instant collection of great games.

For the price of one game you get cloud storage, early access to betas and demos, discounts, heaps of games and on ps4 access to the multiplayer for those who want it paid (I was under the impression it would be up to the individual developer but essentially all big titles would require it) for me it's a no brainier and any friend I've explained it to has signed up (and then you also know they have the same games so you can play together)

        • lol

      • that is a good summary. thanks.

    • Cloud saves and trophies is about it. Could be worth it for some. Otherwise its where the games are at. Compared to MS' pathetic efforts its almost hilarious how good value PS+ is. Truly good value if you play a fair amount of games. Just have to remember to log in like twice a month (can do this from PC) to 'buy' all the free games and you'll have a collection in no time.

Strangely (and psychologically fantastically) the earlier you got in onto PS+ and the longer you keep it going it just becomes better and better value generally.

If you don't pay for a while thats fine… once you start paying again you'll get all the games you unlocked prior.

        • What's to stop you resubscribing in ten years and getting all of your games back? XBL sub pales in comparison.

        • +1

In 10 years time will you even still have a PS3? or an Xbox360? chances are you either sold it or it's sitting in the garage.

          A way of breaking down the 'value';

          • Each year you get about 65 games, and for the sake of easy math, we'll say PS+ subscription is $65, therefore years rental for each game is $1.

          • The next year, you get 65 new games to rent for $1 each, but at no extra cost you get the previous years games too ie 130 games. See where this is going?

          • After 10 years you have spent $650 and received 650 games (probably more, and not to mention discounts on games). If you were to buy these games on disc (because you want a stack of discs in the garage with the console?*) it would have cost $13,000 (assuming $20 per game**).

In the end each game cost you a $1 for a lifetimes rental as long as you continue to rent other games. If you don't want it, then don't download it. Personally I play a game until I've 100%'ed it (trophies), usually that is multiple playthroughs. After that I generally have no desire to replay it, unless the MP is particularly good. So IMO, even if I only get 3 games I like in a year it was better value than buying overpriced disc copies that have zero resale value anyway*.

          *I've tried reselling 20$ games, I couldn't even get $10 for them.

**admittedly not all games are full disc games, some are PSN titles BUT they would still have a cost if you were to buy them.

        • I've still got every console I've ever owned since and including the Atari 2600, covering almost every console to date, so yes, I will still have a PS3 and 360. Never re-sell games either, still own every game for every console I've ever bought. There's no way I would enjoy still having to pay a Sega subscription service to be able to play games on my Dreamcast 10+ years after the consoles demise, so I would't want to do it for Playstation consoles either.

Like I said, it depends what you classify as value. If you're content to eventually be left with no games to play on an old console, and have what games you have access to you dictated by Sony, you might think PS+ is great. I personally prefer to buy games and play them on release, not 6+ months down the track when the online community is dead and the game would be in the bargain bin anyway, so PS+ offers me next to nothing.

        • +2

I respect your opinion to keep consoles, but I suspect that puts you in a minority.

The "Games with Gold" XBL promotion is fantastic, even if the games are old.

          vs.

personally prefer to buy games and play them on release, not 6+ months down the track when the online community is dead

Seems contradictory. That said, the fact PS+ does not deliver release day games as freebies could be argued as a negative, it is a valid point.

My statement was merely pointing out the cost benefits of PS+ and not meant to demean your opinion.

If you subscribed for ~30 years you would receive EVERY full PS3 (793 as of August 18, 2013) game* at a cost of $2000 vs. $50,000+ if you were to buy release day. Personally I can miss out on a whole lotta release day gaming for $48k. That is what I classify as value.

        • "Games with Gold" has so far given me digital copies of games I own already (plus a few I didn't own), at no extra cost. Digital copies means I can pack away my physical ones and have instant game launching for them whenever I want. That's awesome IMO.

I'm not in any way suggesting using "Games with Gold" to replace buying games from the shops, whereas many people talk about PS+ in that way. I wouldn't see a game and go "oh I can't wait to play that game in 2 years time when I get it free from "Games with Gold"!" (and yes, I know GwG will most likely stop in November), whereas that seems to be what people say they're doing with PS+. I literally can't imagine looking forward to a game so much only to have to wait 6+ months and even then hope that Sony and the Developers of the game come to an agreement to put it on the Instant Game Collection. What then if it never comes to the IGC? You just waited 12+ months to play a game, one that may have had a huge online community that is now dead if not deactivated, and didn't even get to play it. That to me is something that I couldn't deal with.

Having said that, I see value in PS+ in that it could let me play games that I never would have bought.

        • Sorry but your comment about the online community being dead is plain wrong. As the fact the game is now on ps+ means it just received a huge player base purchase spike. So if you bought a game previously and it's blind had died then you win as you get a new influx of player base and if you waited…then you still get to ply it with a substantial online community.

      • "Just have to remember to log in like twice a month (can do this from PC) to 'buy' all the free games and you'll have a collection in no time."

a few questions, if anyone can help please:

if I join PSN as a new user, do I have access to all the free games offered previously, or only from the time I join PSN?

can I download the games on PC, then transfer over via USB stick to my softmodded PS3? (I'm considering buying a PS4, so it also has use for the future).

        thank you.

        • if I join PSN as a new user, do I have access to all the free games offered previously, or only from the time I join PSN?

You can only "buy" the game from the date of join PS+, all the previous game are unavailable or you can pay for it.

can I download the games on PC, then transfer over via USB stick to my softmodded PS3? (I'm considering buying a PS4, so it also has use for the future).

No, you can't do it on your PC.

        • But you can 'send to console' after purchasing it on the PC. The console will start downloading automatically the next time it is turned on, usually when it does its update/save& trophy sync in the middle of the night.

  • Since they stack, can we buy two of them for 2.5 years of coverage?

    • yes, i had 3 years at one point

  • If I didn't have such a big backlog I would get it. :( I won't have time to play all the extra games that come with it

  • +1

Time to put $70 or so I saved by getting the ps4 from amazon to good use.

    • Are you sure they are still delivering to Australia?

      • The question should be, are they even delivering at all.

        • Well my PS4 launch edition order hasn't been cancelled and they've had a good 2 months to cancel my order for US customers. So I would assume they will deliver.

        • I got update email from Amazon today on launch edition with the new shipping dates, order still active, fingers crossed

  • I can't see anything on the link about this deal.

I'm considering subbing… I subbed earlier this year for 90 days and the benefits are there… Thinking about using the sub for a year to get free PS4 games so when I buy a PS4 sometime late next year I'll have a nice catalog to play!

  • will you be able to use your subscription on the ps4 or is it limited to the ps3

    • It covers both (& the PS Vita). It is required for online play on the PS4.

  • +1

Does anyone know if there will be a free PS4 game every month from November?

    • +2

Not sure exactly, but at launch you get 2 PS4 games. Resogun(same guys who made Super Stardust HD on PS3) and the PS+ edition of the launch title DriveClub, which is a cut down version of the full game that you can pay a small fee to upgrade to the full. They have previously showed at E3 a bunch of other games that will be free on PS+ eventually, but I'm not sure of the release dates for those.

      • -6

The PS+ DriveClub edition is essentially a demo. You'll get at most a handful of cars and maybe 1-2 tracks. You do not pay a "small fee to upgrade to the full" game - you pay the full retail price minus a small percentage to upgrade.

        • As far as I know you get a feature complete game(online etc.) with less cars and tracks.
As for how much content they include, and how much it costs to upgrade no-one except for Sony knows.
So negging me whilst spewing your own crap is a bit rich.

        • The simple fact that they won't tell you how many cars are included other than "a handful of cars across all the classes" says that you won't get many. 5-10 would be my guess - 1 for each class.

They have also said that you can upgrade for a discounted price. If it was a "small fee" they would say that.

The fact that we're less than 3 months from launch and they won't give a price or car/track number should tell you something.

        • They haven't released any finalised info as to how many will be in the full game yet, so it makes sense we don't have that information for this version. As far as I know finalised info for another next gen racing game, Forza 5, hasn't been released yet either. Does that worry you too?
Chances are there'll be an actual free demo for DriveClub with a relative level of content to what you mentioned before, so logic would tell me that the PS+ edition would have a sizably bigger amount.
Logic would also tell me that since the PS+ edition will be 'feature complete', for the game to actually function properly it would require much more that 1-2 tracks and 5-10 cars.

        • Why would it require more content than that? "Feature Complete" means you can play single player, multiplayer, and complete challenges. You can do that with a single car and a single track. They could give you 1 single car and 1 single track and it can still be "feature complete". You can play single player with that 1 car on that 1 track, you can play multiplayer with that 1 car on that 1 track, and you can do some challenges with that 1 car on that 1 track (like "win your first race" for example).

        • Keep fighting that fight… No matter how much of a stretch it is.
Based on past offerings from PS+, it's safer to assume there'll be a decent amount of content included. But if you want to look at it from a glass half empty perspective (or almost completely empty in your case), then good for you.

        • Guess we'll see who's closer to the mark come launch day. I would bet that you will get a ~10-15% discount if you purchase the full game through the PS+ version, and it will have less than 10 cars. If you expect more than that, I tend to think you'll be disappointed. This isn't a 12 month old game like most PS+ offerings, you get it on the day the console launches. If they gave away an even remotely content-rich version there wouldn't be a single person dumb enough to then go and buy the whole game.

Keep on fighting that Sony fight. They're not a business trying to make money at all, they're only in it to make you happy, right?

        • Fighting the Sony fight? Really?
That comment says a lot more about you than it does about me. Plus the fact you seem to constantly neg me when we're simply disagreeing on something…
          Grow Up.

        • +1

It speaks volumes that he is a self confessed MS fan but spends all of his time trolling the PS threads trying to explain to people why they are all wrong.

        • Self confessed MS fan? You saying I'm a MS fan doesn't make it SELF confessed lol. I'm not a "fan" of either company, they're just companies. I have no personal feelings either way to either of them.

I'm a video game fan - that's why I've got both a PS4 and XB1 pre-ordered and will pick them both up on release day. Just like for every generation since the NES/Master System, I'll own all consoles. Are you guys both doing the same? Something tells me "no".

        • Self confessed MS fan

Probably gave that impression when you criticized the Sony (service) for one thing and then extolling the MS (service) for doing the same thing.

          I'll own all consoles

This doesn't mean you are not a fan of one system over another.

To play online on next gen consoles it costs a yearly fee. The prices are about the same ($50 vs. $55), but the Sony one gives you access to, what I think no one can dispute, more content. What I think most people here have trouble with is why you can't see any positives/value in the Sony deal? Nor any of the positives in getting access to (even if it is as you say; very limited) sub-feature games? 5$ more and you get a whole lot more. Even if you decide "I don't want to play 'free' games because I don't own them" it's such a small price to pay.

Do you always see the glass as half empty?

        • Probably gave that impression when you criticized the Sony (service) for one thing and then extolling the MS (service) for doing the same thing.

PS+'s IGC and XBL's GwG are 2 completely different things. One legitimately gives you "free" games, the other gives you access to play select games for as long as you subscribe.

I think the former is great - games are yours to keep forever no matter what you do. I don't think the latter is great because as soon as you stop paying you can't play any games. To make it worse, you can't even choose what games you want to play with your subscription. If it was Netflix-esque and you just got access to all their games I'd be singing its praises. I still wouldn't abandon buying games physically/digitally for it though, as I still want to be able to play games without paying a subscription fee - but it would be an awesome subscription service.

This doesn't mean you are not a fan of one system over another.

I prefer the 360 to the PS3, no doubt. I prefer the controller, XBL, the exclusives, the better versions of 95% of multiplatform games, and most importantly all my mates play on 360 over PS3. That doesn't, however, make me a fan of Microsoft. I don't care for big multi-billion dollar companies, they're not my friends or enemies. They're businesses.

I have already said the value I see in PS+, but you conveniently overlook it every time:

Having said that, I see value in PS+ in that it could let me play games that I never would have bought.

I said that in this very thread.

Do you always see the glass as half empty?

When you're dealing with big businesses who are NOT looking out for your best interests, it's generally best to look at things as glass half empty in my experience.

I most likely won't be subscribing to PS+, and as such won't be playing PS4 online unfortunately. No PS3 exclusive's online grabbed me enough for me to put more than a few dozen hours into it at the most, and so far nothing on the PS4 has either, it's all just sequels to those games that didn't grab me. If a game like Titanfall came along that was PS4 exclusive though, no doubt it would make me buy a PS+ subscription.

        • No, I'm not buying both consoles, I almost cancelled my PS4 preorder in favor of Steam only. I see no advantage of owning an Xbone tbh so I'm going with PS/Steam. I have got current subscriptions to both Gold and PS Plus though, I've had 4+ years of Gold and I believe that it is incomparable to PS Plus, as do many people judging by preorders of both of the new consoles. Also my point still stands, you are trolling a PS Plus thread again. If you don't like it why not move on and find something you do like?

As for PS4 having all sequels I'd like to point you in the direction of The Order: 1886, brand new IP, same goes for Knack, another brand new IP. The reason I stopped playing my 360 was due to Halo piss poor sequels and rehashes galore, same with Gears, Fable etc

        • I see no advantage of owning an Xbone tbh

If that sentence right there doesn't point out your PS/Sony bias then I don't know what does. Xbone? Someones been hanging around N4G/Neogaf I see. What about all the exclusives? They have something like 12 new exclusive IPs in the first year. Knack looks, to put it bluntly, bad. Ultra linear, ultra easy, ultra boring. Looks like a PS1 era kids game but with nice graphics. The Order? All we've seen is an "in-engine" cutscene, which is never representative of in-game gameplay.

If you were a video game fan you wouldn't say something so ignorant and dismissive as "I see no advantage of owning console x". You already know EVERY single game that will ever be released for it do you? You already know every single OS feature that it will ever have? It seems to me that you're a Sony fan in the console space, not a video game fan.

The fact that you also point to preorder numbers, of which we don't have any hard numbers other than Sony's "over 1 million", shows your true colours.

You enjoy your PS4/Steam, while I'm enjoying my XB1/PS4/Steam/WiiU. One of us will get to enjoy any game that comes out on any system, the other will miss out on dozens of excellent games out of nothing more than love of one company and hate of another, both of which don't even know or care that you personally even exist.

        • I see no advantage of owning an Xbone tbh

Is not proof of bias, simply that the xbone does not outdo anything the PS4 can do, so why change 'sides'?

I am a video game fan, and I can say "I see no advantage of owning an Xbone". It is because I am not ignorant that I can say that. I have looked at the exclusive games, specs & features and I honestly believe there is no advantage of the Xbone over the PS4 especially when you look at it from a gaming viewpoint. To me it seems like an attempt to create a glorified set top box that can play games.

Knack looks, to put it bluntly, bad

If we are going to start picking/speculating on unreleased exclusive games, have you seen 'Ryse: Son of Rome'? Talk about boring, repetitive hack'n'slash, yawn.

You already know every single OS feature that it will ever have?

No, do you? So you suggest we buy them based on what may or may not become a feature in the future? Oh wait, you suggest was buy them all because that's what real video game fans do.

          You enjoy your PS4/Steam

I will, do tell me when a good exclusive comes to the Xbone, because seriously I can not see a single one worth buying an entire console for. I thought perhaps Titanfall, turns out that's not an exclusive anyway. I won't be missing out on dozens of games, because let's face it, if they had any value to me I would have bought the console, but who knows? maybe one day I will…

        • Forza 5, day one exclusive. Game, set, match. Sequel in the highest rating sim racing franchise in history, even higher than Gran Turismo.

From a game point of view there is a HUGE advantage to owning a XB1 as well as a PS4. Without a XB1 you can't play the XB1 exclusive games. I'm not gonna bother if you're one of the "it's not on Playstation so it's not a good game" people though, which is the appearance you're putting out. If you didn't have both a PS3 and 360 this generation, you missed out. Fact. Same with XB1/PS4.

Yawn, did somebody mention sequels again? Funny how quick you forget the stuff you come out with isn't it? The only thing of interest on Xbone is coming to a superior Steam platform.

Tbh I might buy my kid an Xbone when they get a big price drop, he likes Halo sequels unfortunately.

As for bias, yes of course my bias is towards the system I prefer, that's why I'm in a PS thread again, what's your excuse?

        • In the end the difference is most of us are content with buying 1 console and having access to 90% of the console games available. Is the extra $800 just to play those 20 something exclusives that come out on the other console really worth it? Not to me.

The reason I would pair a Steam/Origin/whatever box with a PS4 is that MS work with both console & PC so many of the games they release on Xbox will often come to PC eg Titanfall. This does not apply to Sony, Playstation exclusives are always exclusive eg Killzone, Uncharted. Combining Steam + PS4 console gives us access to 90% of console games and 100% of pc games. How many games do you really need?

        • How many games do you really need?

All of them. I like to be able to go to the shops and be able to buy and play any game that I like the look of, without exception. This might come down to me being a video game fan and not a console fan like others appear to be.

Being able to play 90% of the games isn't enough for me. Some of the highest rating/selling games/series of all time are on the 360 and will be on the XB1, and to just dismiss them because you can play most of the other games somewhere else is silly IMO. You guys might be fine with it, more power to you. But don't go and tell me that I'M the Microsoft fan when you guys have made up your mind about which you are and aren't buying before the consoles are even out, when I'm buying both.

Gaming isn't a cheap hobby, that's just a fact. For the price of 5 games RRP you can buy an XB1 console as well as your PS4, now you can play any game that is released. To not do so seems silly to me.

PS Plus and Steam makes it cheaper. That way I don't feel so wasteful for wasting so much money on games. Leaves me with more spare to treat the family. I don't get the luxury of having time to play all of the games I would like to nowadays having a young family and a business to care for, but Plus gives me plenty to choose from and also for the kids to play as well. I still get to buy the games I really want and it costs me less than the RRP of a single game per 15 months.

  • I'll probably grab this. I've won a three-month membership which expires at the start of September and my time with PS Plus has convinced me it's an awesome service.

  • I can't see anywhere it says 90 days free. I didn't get the email either.

      • Yeah i saw that but it seemed to be EU only as it doesn't appear anywhere on the au psn store on the ps3 itself

        • Has anyone actually got the three months ?

        • +1

It is expected to be available later this week. It was only announced today/yesterday.

EU & AU are the same region, in most cases what they get, we get. The timezones also mean it is delayed for AU. AU has to wait until the time is right for EU before it gets released here. Typically content is available to AU the day after the EU.

        • Cheers

        • If it works i might by two of them and get 2.5 years

        • Has anyone tried by one year twice yet ? Did you get six months bonus ?

        • Yes you do, bonus also stacks.

  • i did not get my 3 months free when SEN decides to renew my m/ship yesterday. called them this morning and they told me, i'm not getting the 3 months. this is bullshit.

  • 30 day free trial - PSN Plus
    https://www.facebook.com/PlayStationAU/app_106681779474103

I was able to submit my details for this, but have not received confirmation email.

    • take 4 days for me to receive the code,

      • It took me 4 weeks to get my email!!!
And then the code didn't work anyway. Rang PS and they said I'm eligible and it should work but that i need to go thru the Facebook page to get it fixed. Contacted them, but never got a reply!
Wanted to try the cloud storage for game files (and try LBP karting)

  • OP, please put Expires Sept 20 in the details.

  • I was all excited when reading the email when I got to the Vita section and under its games there was the borderlands 2 logo. They could have sold me a Vita on the spot if that was the case.

  • I'm assuming you can get this via game cards? I have a $50 game card and so I can input that then another $20 for the year sub?

    • yes

  • Just received an email specifically regarding this deal, but it seems like it's still not live on the SEN store yet…
