Best place to sell old games?

Hello ozbargainers,

I was just wondering where you think the best place to sell old xbox 360 games is. I know Eb games gives you very little, but after looking on ebay you dont get that much either there. Should I just bite the bullet and go to eb?
Thanks for any suggestions

  • IMO, ebay is always better than going to EB.

If there are a lot of auctions for my game, I usually put them up at a fixed price a bit higher than sold completed listings ones. If there aren't many auctions on for my game, I put them up as an auction.

    No fees on Gumtree.

  • Suggest just throwing them together as a bundle and valuing each game at 5-10 dollars on ebay, instead of getting 2-3 each at EB.

    • That is certainly the quickest way to sell but also nets you the least per game.

  • Yes but gumtree buyers always give you lame offers

Then counter offer? Or ignore them? No one's forcing you to accept those lowballs.

There aren't any fees on Gumtree, you can relist as often as you want and it's completely safe for sellers if they know what they're doing.

      • Yes, listings are completely free and last forever, you lose nothing by listing there.

  • ebay, start them at 99c and see where they go. usually get alot better than EB, I have not stepped foot in their stores for over 2 years.

  • +1

If you choose eBay and start the auction at 99 cents… then expect 40 watchers on your items and rigourous bidding in the last 5 minutes.

      …or you'll get 99c.

  • I usually sell old games on Gumtree. Especially those I buy off of ozgameshop, because I can still make a profit on them. I bought Black Ops 2 just as it was released and sold it a week after because I received a 2nd copy as a gift. Forgotten all the prices but let's just say I bought it for $50 online instead of $75 in stores here, and sold it for 60-65 on gumtree. Those arent the exact/correct prices but the differences are similar. I "matched" store prices and still made a tiny profit.

Not sure how it works with "old" games, as in 1-2 year old games.. but if it's fairly new, you'll probably get better offers.

  • Ebay is most certainly your best option for no hassle/fast sales and decent $$.

What type of titles are you talking about here more importantly?

If it's recent release, maybe you'd get $30-$50

older, maybe $10 - $30, from experience it will be very hit and miss.

If they are titles from the first couple years of the xbox 360's life, you'd be dreaming if you are expecting anything much better than $10. $15 if your lucky and the game is harder to come by.

Why would anyone pay $10 for it second hand on ebay when the same title could be $8 brand new from JB HiFi, right?

Going back to my mention of hard to come by/rare titles; The battle for middle earth 2 was reeling in some pretty respectable dosh around the hype of The Hobbit movie release. So definitely research your games to accurately gauge how much they are worth (so you don't sell a game worth 100 for a mere 20)

  • thanks for all the suggestions I'll give ebay and gumtree a go

  • Some of my friends like to sell trade their games after they finish them, whilst some of us (incl. me) like to gather a collection. So what we do is if a friend wants to sell, he/she takes it to eb to get it valued, and sell it to us at that price. That way the game is recycled back into use/collection without retailers making a free buck off customers. And of course we get it cheaper (minus retailer mark ups). So they get the money they would have got, and we get the game cheaper. Win win.

With this my collection has grown to 65+ ps3 games, never spending more then $50 a game (thought my average is closer to $20).

  • Hey I'd like to know the best place to buy old games,
Mind posting a list here of the games / condition and the prices ?

    thx

    • they have all been pretty well looked after but if you want to know for a specific game just let me know
rage, metro 2033, dead island, tekken 6, skate 3, hunted x 2, brink, fable 3, nhl 2k6, ufc 2010, crackdown, avp, red faction, dragon age, arkham asylum, xmen destiny, forza/odst, force unleashed 1 and 2, wwe 2008, x blades, space marine, medal of honour, homefront, borderlands, super street fighter 4, fallout new vegas
im gonna chuck them all on ebay in the next few days starting at 99 cents i think, or chuck them on gumtree for 5-25 each

  • As much as I do not like facebook I have lots of friends who sell stuff on buy swap sell sites. These are local to your area. You say what you want and mostly only locals will look at it, and the sale seems to be very quick same day or in a couple of days from what I hear. From what I am being told you will or should do better or get as much as ebay without the hassle. Most of the friends I have that use this choose a drop off point ie local shops to meet the buyer or deliver it to them (local) rather then have a stranger come to their house. Might be worth a look

  • ebay

  • I have been turned off Gumtree. Annoying messages asking questions that my ad answers clearly and then the stupidity low offers. EBay is worth the fee.

  • I'd say ebay too. Sure there are costs involved but also a safety net if things go belly up. Safer for buyer and seller. I wouldn't buy anything on Gumtree unless I could pick it up myself

Try Gumtree first before using ebay, Ebays takes 10% for every sales that you make so i won't suggest to try sell your games there if they worth more than $50.

I say gumtree, price them sensible and you will sell them. Biggest problem with old video games is people overprice them

  • Try PCPP or OCAU forums.
