Buying Windows 7 or Windows 8

Hi guys,

I need to reformat an oldish laptop which has turned to crap, won't boot etc. I've tested the HDD witha caddy and the HDD is fine so I guess Windows must be corrupted or something. there is no recovery partition to run a restore or anything.

Where can I find the cheapest Windows 7 or 8 to buy?

Thanks in advance :)

No use Wins 7. Easier, simpler.

There's a reason a lot of new laptops that all come with Wins 8 as a default allows you to wind back t win7.

Its believed another reason for the PC industry decline this last year is because of win 8.

Slower and old. Win 8 is FAST. Boots in a few seconds max in a new system with an SSD, rips along in daily usage, improved file copying alone makes it worth the switch.

Metro is so easy to get rid of. It takes 30 secs. You only have to install 1 app (Start is Back, or Classic Start).

Then BAM! you never see Metro again — and it's just like as if you were using Windows 7 but with the added benefits of 8's performance and better file-system.

If the laptop had Windows on it orignally, there should be a certificate of authenticity stuck somewhere on it, usually on the bottom or somewhere (it might be hidden). Look at what version it's licensed for, torrent a Windows disk (or I think you can contact MS and buy one for cheap) or borrow one off a friend and use your product key to install.

No need to buy a new one, you don't need to own installation media or a recovery partition, just the COA sticker and product key.
