  • What do you mean by "a good comprehensive policy" - that can differ a lot between people, and budget policies generally don't cover a lot of things.

    • good question lisss. im actually not sure i usually used to go with one cover or cover more if that gives you any idea. heres what im sort of thinking.

medical cover including dental - unlimited
      loss of baggage
      flight cancellation - delay
i'll be taking my 600d dslr and tablet so i'm looking to get them covered
lose my passport or any of my stuff get stolen - covered
i'm thinking of going to the wave house in sentosa island so if they could cover for any injuries arising from that would be good
      hire car excess doesn't matter
don't mind if there's $100 excess but no excess would be better.

      i'm sure there's a lot i forgot

but to be honest i had a quick look on the two mentioned above and the prices have seemed to rise exponentially so i thought i'd post here to see if anyone would do the hard work for me.

      thanks again

  • .

  • Hmm, shop around
I normally use TID cause I find it's the cheapest and if you google you can find active discount codes.

    http://www.travelinsurancedirect.com.au/what-we-cover

They meet all your needs except the dental part, only $500 dollar cover but unlimited medical. etc etc

  • I went to singapore eaerlier this year, i used Aus Post Travel insurance, they resell Cover More but offer more in their comprehensive package than buying direct.
I got quite sick (gallbladder) and was in hospital for a couple of days. i was out of pocket $4,500 when i got home i made a claim and had my money back in 4 days.
They are awesome, they have their own claims department so u dont deal with Cover More directly.

Check their inclusions, they allow you to allocate single expensive items without much extra chatge (i insured my 64GB iphone 5 $1000 they charged me $0 to allocate that item)

    No excess on claims
They even cover car hire etc
they wont cover motorbike use or accidents but no one will these days.

They cover flight cancelations and delays .. and unlike cover more and everyone else they also cover you if your airline goes bankrupt which no one does anymore (not likley.. but good clause to have)

Check them out. i went to Thailand this month and didn't even shop around.. went straight to them and ironically lost my iphone and 250 cash … got it back in 5 working days from my claim being submitted.

    • Oh and they have a direct number so if u r get sick and end up on Hospital they can pay them direct so u don't have to foot the bill if u cant afford it while u r away. I didn't use it but they did call me at the hospital to check on me after i had called them from SG to find out what the go was as i was in hospital

  • Haven't spent weeks researching this topic but I use:
    a) travel insurance direct TID, or
    b) the dodgy credit card travel insurance from an ANZ Platinum card - which presumably is not very good.

    • platinum credit card insurance is actually fine for most :)

  • thanks for the reply's. i'll have a bit of a look later on and let you know how i go

  • Go to Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI) -They are consistantly lower than other insurers & provide an excellent service. I am not affiliated with this company but we have used them for years for our holidays. Any claims made are dealt with quickly & with outstanding service. Give them a go & be pleasently surprised

  • Compare the (travel) market: http://travelinsurancequotes.com.au/

  • I have just compared & none advertised match the price & benefits offered from SCTI which is an on line only company. When I unfortunately had a fall in the hotel when on holiday in Koh Samui in April they were brilliant - phoning to check on progress reports, paid hospital bills quickly & efficiently +FLEW US HOME BUSINESS CLASS AT THE END OF THE HOLIDAY EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ONLY ME WITH A BROKEN WRIST. The day after arrival home we received another follow up call to ensure that all travel back had gone to plan.Cannot fault this company & they are consistently cheaper than any others. Every trip away I shop around but always come back to SCTI. Do research yourself to compare

  • thanks for the suggestions!

i ended up going with scti for $48 as they seemed the best value for they money. didn't look too hard, but what i found nothing could really come close for value and the majority of feedback seemed positive (even though you can't rely on that these days)

    • oh it was $48 for a 6 day policy.

  • Good on you - you won't regret the choice. Hopefully you won't need to use it!!

  • Does the scti also covers delayed baggage condition ? not many policies cover that.. i was looking one for myself ..i have been travelling with insurance on my platinum credit card but last time my baggage was delayed while coming back to Australia the insurance company - Zilch refused to pay the claims…is this normal with all the insurances that the return journey to home country does not cover baggage delays ?

    • Can't answer that question as has never happened but would recommend looking @ the T&C's on the SCTI website or send them an email.Just one thing you insure with a company called Zilch !! - That would make me feel uncomfortable to begin with. Does that mean Zilch payout,Zilch help when in need of a claim,Zilch doing anything except take your money ?
Other alternative of course is to claim from the airline responsible for not forwarding your luggage.
