Buying console solely for GTA:V- Best deal?

Hi,

I'm buy a console (either Xbox 360 or PS3) solely to play GTA:V. I have no other interest in other games. As soon as the PC version comes out (if it does), I'll be selling the console.

So- cheapest I've located is a pre-owned 20GB console (EBGames) for $88 plus $66 for GTA:V (PlayAsia). Total is $154 plus delivery.

Has anyone seen combo deals around (ie console + game)?

Even if they're no deals at the moment, is it likely that it will be cheaper than $150?

Cheers

  • keep in mind there will be a mandatory install for GTA V of approx. 8gb.
not sure how much of that 20gb console is usable memory… but keep this in mind.

arguably there will be some kind of combos when GTA V comes out including the game but these would likely be new consoles and above your $150 target spend

also if you intend on playing GTA Online when that launches in October to factor in the cost of xbox live gold if you end up with the 360 as a console…

good luck with the hunt, should be a fantastic game.

    • Rockstar have learnt their lesson with LA Noire (3 discs on the 360 version? Yuck :P)

You could also ask people you know whether they'll be playing GTA Online, and go for the console most of them play.

If you decide on the 360, there is XBL Gold to factor in (Ozgameshop has 3 months for $20, and 12 months for $50.)

Enjoy GTA V, can't wait for my copy.

  • i'm also after a console to play GTA 5 on. I wish they would release they 500GB PS3 + GTA 5 bundle here!!

  • If you're interested in playing it online, definitely get the PS3. No subscription required. In regards to 20GB I'm 99% sure you'll be able to get away with it (8gb mandatory install).

  • Yeah, I'm not fused about playing it online. Never got into GTA:4 online much.

Would these preowned 360's be more suceptable to RROD? They only come with a 3 month warranty.

Well keep this thread updated incase any deals come up.

    • I'd steer clear of a used 360 if its the old fatter one. They are like time bombs waiting to RROD.

      Slims should be ok

      • still lucky here my 60gb xbox 360 pro still running well…. But I'd get the newer slims just in case :)

    • I got a preowned one from eb two years ago and it's still running strong. I bought the 60GB version.

      It's probably this one:

      https://ebgames.com.au/xbox360-145330-Xbox-360-60GB-Console-…

  • I actually did buy a Slim Xbox 360 which died after a week (controller stopped, would only boot up every 10th time, wifi was dead, it froze). Was a headache to deal with MLN and Microsoft. Hated it….

Anyway, just found a cheaper one- $61 but could take a while to ship (http://www.blockbuster.com.au/games/grand-theft-auto-v-xbox-…)

    • -3

He wants the console not the game…

      • +1

he's just telling us his experience with the xbox slim since the OP is looking to buy a console

  • Lol, I did that with GTA IV, I bought a console just to play GTA IV and I was very disappointed with the game :(

I hope you play the game before actually buying it, though it looks like this game will cater to a wider variety then GTA IV did…

I recommend you buy more then just 1 game for a console, there's plenty of other great games this Gen: Saints Row 3&4, Prototype 2, Blood Dragon, the Halo series, etc,

Think whether you're willing to sink the cash for one game, though i guess things are a bit cheaper due to the end of the console cycle….

  • Cheers, but I've got a pretty good PC which I much prefer to game on.

So far, I've found these deals:

    GTA:V + 500GB PS3 (BigW for $399) OR Amazon UK ($300 + wait for delivery)

    Any other deals around?
