Nothing too exciting pricewise for an i3 with these specs. The 17" screen one they had a while back was a better deal, it was only $29 more and had a lot more bells and whistles, such as widi.

    Terrible

    the dregg pile

Why would this be posted as a bargain? I used it for a few days to suss it out. It's ok, apparently a Lenovo rebranded laptop but for $499 there are better options around. Pretty sure this is widi capable or I could be mixing it with something else.

It may be a lot of things, but it's not a re-branded Lenovo. I doubt you've tried one, as this is a new model to our shores. No, it does not have widi, in fact it's pretty basic.

Yeh, so you don't think that I tried one. Would post a receipt for your benefit but it's in somewhere in my car and I'm not going to bother looking for it because its an item I already returned. It has Medion and Aldi bloatware and the the default homepage is Lenovo.com. Was trying to verify if it was when I got it and read it somewhere, hence the term 'apparently'.

Granted I'm most likely mistaken about the widi. If anyone is really interested in this laptop the only place I could find it in my area was Rouse Hill. So nothing in Quakers, Seven hills. Not too sure about Winston Hills.

Perhaps they are restocking them but I can say that I did use it 2 weeks ago.

People make the point that it a touchscreen is needed for the metro interface and surprisingly the trackpad is not half bad. The scrolling is not great but the other gestures are serviceable.

Tbh, the keyboard layout feels strange and takes a little time to adjust pressing the numeric keypad 4 as opposed to enter. Of course plenty of other options available but with Aldi's return policy it's good for people to see if Windows 8 works for them and whether an i3 is enough for their use.

It is a rebranded lenovo. Lenovo own Medion. I got a G570 2 year ago with this same spec + a dedicated graphic card for $398 and it look very similar to this. The keyboard layout is exactly the same.

How is this a bargain? You can get an Acer with these spec from msy for $100 less.

    • -1

Yeah, but I'd rather a medion than an Acer any day.

      • -1

        Anything but an Acer :P

Medion over Acer?? Ive never heard of a Medion before. However I have an Acer Monitor for 3 years and still going strong.

I reckon a touchscreen is the way to go with Windows 8, it is made for touch screens and will save wanting or buying a touchpad later. Touchscreen i3 laptops have appeared on OZB for less than this.

  • Not considering this a bargin, when you can get other brands for same or cheaper, and have you ever tried to get warranty on a medion?

  • Picked up one of these at Opening of new Aspley Aldi a few weeks ago for $350. Fine for what it is. Was keen on putting spaee SSD I have into it. HDD and Ram is not easily accessible if you wanted to purchase and upgrade. i gave up .
